Valentine Hardwire question

I pulled the panel under the sunroof panel to do the hardwire per the bmwtips instructions, but the 3 pin connector they said to tap in to for power seems to be the one used for Homelink. Instead, there's an unused white 6-pin connector in there, but I don't know which wire carries the switched power. Nicest way to do this would be to buy the matching 6 pin connector and run power from there rather than using the vampire clip that Valentine supplies.

Does anyone know or recall which is the switched 12V wire on this 6 pin connector, and what the part number for the matching male connector is?

Of course the green/white wire from the 3 wire homelink circuit could still be used (assuming that it's the same one shown in bmwtips), but it would be a little easier to tap into the unused connector

Thanks.

the other connector is for the microphone. I'm don't know if this provides a switched power source. I'd have to look at the BMW wiring diagram CD.

I did the tap on the homelink connector, and it worked great. (I have both homelink and a microphone installed)

Also, my valentine hangs from the visor. This allows me to keep it portable, and not obviously visible from the outside.

Go to your local Radio Shack and pick a pack of these http://www.radioshack.com/product/i...=2103500&cp=&sr=1&origkw=tap-in+connector&kw=tap-in+connector&parentPage=search

I hate those t-taps that were supplied with the V1 and the Stealth1. I use the one from Radio Shack (made by 3M I believe) and it's MUCH easier.

Quick tip: if you do use the Radio Shack tap-in connector, reverse the metal blade inside the red plastic housing. That metal blade has one side better suited for smaller gauge wire, which would be the Homelink in the car. The V1's power line appears slightly bigger than the Homelink power line. Reversing the blade will give you a more secure connection.

I use this same tap-in to wire my Stealth1 into the ibus. Also had to reverse the blade for a secure connection.

I checked out the mic connector and in fact could not find 12V on it, so that's not a solution. I'll head over to Radio Shack tomorrow and get a pack of their connectors, and then tap into the green/white homelink wire.

Thanks very much for the advice.

I used the supplied t-tap to wire my S1 into the ibus. When I got my second M5 I needed to transfer the S1 over. I severed the ibus wire in the car when trying to remove that t-tap! And I am the very careful type when working on anything.

The Radio Shack/3M version is a snap to remove with one hand in a tight spot. I wouldn't have severed that small gauge ibus wire. The t-tap is not that hard to remove if you have wide open space, but wiring in the headliner or especially behind the glove box the t-tap is a pain to work with.

The T-Taps work fine. Plus they're easy to remove if need be. No need to complicate things.

Not sure how you did that, but I was able to remove the T-tap (which, btw, is a 3m part) with one hand while laying under the dashboard in the passenger footwell.

That's great! I cannot stand, and have never used, the ciggy power source. All 3 of my cars are wired. My M has the awesome S1, my other 2 cars have the V1's stealth display unit. I wish they have the S1 available for all cars.

E55, yes the t-taps works but for $2 and a quick trip to your local Shack it could potentially save a lot of work and headache. Trust me, those Shack tap-ins are a lot easier to work with!

The only difference between the taps are one has a wire plugged into the side, and one has the two wires inline in one case. I've used tons of both, they're both about the same to work with.

Old thread but I'm just now hardwiring the V1 and installing the bluetooth and sirius equipment at the same time. The microphone goes to a small black connector that I found tucked up on the drivers side of the homelink. Then there is an unused white connector that was on the passenger side of the homelink. Any idea what the white connector is for? And more importanly, what wire do you get switched power from for the V1? Instructions I read said to look for a green/yellow wire but I don't see one that color. There is the bundle to the lights, the bundle to the rain sensor, the power roof bundle, the homelink bundle, the microphone bundle, and this unused bundle to the mysterious white connector and I don't see a green/yellow wire in any of them?

I guess I need to poke around with a test light.

Sorry to bump this thread....

I just purchased a Valentine for my e39 M5 and want to know what additional equipment I will need to hardwire it?

I saw some kits on ebay that hardwire it to the fuse box, but it seems there are easier ways (to the homelink or microphone)....does Valentine include parts to do this with the V1?

-thanks

I got my V1 in the mail yesterday. Did you get it from V1 or eBay?? The V1 comes with the hardwire kit and a decent manual explaining how to connect it. All you would need to do is use the diagram given to tap in to the homelink power and run the cable out next to the rear view mirror. For now I have mine suction cupped on the right of the mirror. I like it so far.. :)
