Not sure what to say, if the car is lowered you are going to have some sort of ride quality issues wont you ? I think you went too far in slamming it down, maybe raise it up a bit and drive and see what a diff. it makes. Also how fast is fast, where are you guys going that you need something faster then the M, hell I can barely brake 80 and worried about cops sitting around the corner just waiting to write me a suspension ticket if they could. The M is quick and fast enough in every aspect in a daily drive to work or eve ride, I bet it may be even the fastest car on the street in 2 mile radius even in traffic how fast is fast ? Not sure but I would stick with M and reconsider your suspensipon settings.

This.

I love my M5. Best car I have EVER bought. Period. Close second was my previous 2001 540i sport. Granted I have only driven it 1000 miles or so since I bought it (about 3 months ago), I find myself not being able to enjoy as much as I want to! Having my dealer license my lively hood depends on my driving license and if I was ever caught doing triple digit speeds, sliding, etc I am sure my license would be revoked in a heartbeat. That being said I just couldnt imagine having a car that is even faster. BUT, I keep finding myself on google images and MBworld looking at the e55's hiha

There ya go, the red version of your car. Just doesnt look the same :(

Wes if you ask this same question over the MB Forums im sure you would get the total oposite responces then you do here. This is the M5 forum, where we all die hard M5 fans reside. Its the ///M or go home!! lol.

Talk me out of it or talk me into it, fellas. I trust your insight here.

Reasons I want to sell the M5:

4) Audio system is not bad, but like most all stock optioned systems, it could use some improvement. I want OEM satellite radio (cost to do this correctly in the M5 is upwards of $800 -- cost to do this in the Benz is $15/mo for the subscription). I also think Logic7 is a better system overall than our M-Audio (for those of us that are so equipped). This is seemingly minor, but I've honestly wanted OEM sat radio ever since I sold my E46 M3 (which had it).

Not sure what to do -- when I weigh one with the other, it's a toss-up. I'd prefer not to sell the M5 and have both cars, but it's simply not the most financially intelligent. Opinions?
Why is the Sirius upgrade so expensive for your '02? Admittedly, I spent about $1200 on mine, but that included the new (dealer) BM53 radio, old to new harness adapters, and new (OEM) Sirius with one year subscription and a used Mk-IV. You shouldn't need the BM53 or harness adapters, and you don't have to have the Mk-IV for OE Sirius. The Mk-IV is only required for the Nav radio display. The station will display on the OBC with Mk-III.

The fixes to your issues are a day's work at most. Sounds like you're just ready to move on.

As was mentioned above, there will not be many neutral positions on this board (or on the Mercedes forums), so get what you want!

Not surprisingly, my opinion is that an E55, despite the straight-line speed, is a definite down-grade. The E39 is widely recognized as a modern classic, a benchmark car...the E55, well, not so much... Heck, there are still articles written about the E39 M5 and articles comparing it to new cars (check out Evo's comparison of the E39 M5 with the Panamara manual V8). It's amazing the the car is still relevant this many years later.

I recent sold my car and - hold on to your seats - do not regret it. Some of you are familiar with fact that it was very fast as well as immaculately well kept. The thing is, for me, these things just run their course. I am a true enthusiast and took major crap from many who were disappointed that I would let such a car get away. However, at the end of the day it still just a car. And I am still a true enthusiast.

Wes, I get your need to try, or at least consider trying new things. My Beast was the most rewarding of all the cars I have owned but that doesn't stop me from wanting to experience others. Life is short. Go hard. And don't let others tell you what you will or won't regret. That part is yours.

That's not going to happen.

The ///M family and AMG class of cars have different ethos. People always say, "Drive your BMW, be chauffered in your Mercedes". To me, the M5 is a sports machine wrapped in an executive package, the Merc is a luxury ride with sporting intentions. They may appear similar to the average eye, but their origins surely are different.

Get what suits you, are you a car show fanatic, a drag race master, a road racer expert or just a grocery getter who loves other people drooling over your ride? Find the car that best compliments the quality your enjoy the most about car ownership.

I vote E55 AMG for you! Oh yeah, and no soup for you after that. hiha

Uh oh,

DISCLAIMERS WARS!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
SHADDAP YOU INSTIGATOR YOU!

Okay, so here's my post about Wes' dilemma...

YOU FIEND! Seriously, Wes. I think that we've exchanged posts here and there so I think that we're on friendly enough terms where I don't have to beat around the bush here and I hope that you would do the same.

You slammed the hell out of your car and are complaining about ride quality and rattles? Come on! If that happened to a solid car like the M5, then it's gonna happen to many other cars as well.

I do wonder about the timeline of events in your head. Did you reach a nice level with the M5 and then the issues began to happen and you began to look for ways to change your car? Is your dissatisfaction with speed and audio forced displeasures because you know that the ride, rattles, and squeaks can only be fixed by not having such a slammed car?

I always say that you can explore handling on the street safer than you can explore speed, so keep that in mind with the E55. If you just like the cruise around and get on it on the highway, then the Merc will be a fine choice.

It's disappointing to see you consider getting rid of the car after seeing you post so many threads with pictures and mods. You basically prepared the car for the next guy.

But hey! It's your car and perhaps it is time to move on. If the car no longer tickles your fancy, then so be it. The next guy will have a hell of a nice ride as long as they raise it a little bit.

Don't listen to him! Don't sell! You will regret it!

(LOL).
