What happens to the steering wheel emblem when the airbag goes off?

Yup, what the title says. Anyone know or has an idea/theory?

I ask because I'm thinking of a small mod (visual only) that would go on top of the logo. The last thing I want is having it encrusted in my face in the unhappy event that causes my airbags to deploy.

Maybe. It would help to know how it deploys and what happens to the center of the steering wheel. It doesnt just pop at your face. Does it split through the center? Does it open from the side like a lid?

it stays attached to the steering wheel when the air bag deploys and im pretty certian the bmw logo does not break in half

What are you planning?? Bling Bling:eek7::eek7::eek7:
I'm going to be making some stainless steel accents for the car which I may powdercoat to match the gunmetal that I'm gonna use for my wheels. This is gonna go around the fog lights, the brake duct openings, the license plate frame, the exhaust opening, and the interior as well (though raw to match my shifter, e-brake handle and navigation knobs). I was thinking of something cool for the steering wheel but I don't want to run stupid risks, hehe.

I already have one that's gonna go on the plenum cover. It's unfinished (the logo is an old one I had laying around - I'd use a new one in chrome with a coat of lacquer for protection).

I have a few E39 wheels which have "burst" open from the airbag deploying- they open up like the tailgate on an SUV (best way I could describe it) one flap opens upwards toward the top of the steering wheel rim, and the other flap opens downwards toward the bottom of the steering wheel. The emblem stays attached to the flap (not sure which flap) and out of the way of the airbag.
Mind you, I have seen 2 variations of emblem on the same M sport steering wheel design- one has the roundel with an 1/8" of clear plastic over it, and it is set deeply into the steering wheel, and the other is just the roundel embossed on thin metal, sitting slightly raised above the surface of the steering wheel. This may only be on the Euro cars we have here though..

I was thinking more along the lines of "when this airbag splits open at 100mpg, what exactly, other than some glue, is going to keep this emblem attached". You'll note that there is generally nothing attached to a steering wheel cover or passenger dash cover - everything is molded in, painted on, etc. There's a reason for that, so be careful ;)

Actually what happens is that BMW makes sure to imprint the BMW logo in your forehead in case of crash as punishment for destroying a BMW.

The //M models are extra harsh and the stick-knob w/ the //M pops off and flies into your eye as you bend down in a accident and you will have a "glass-eye" //m eye ball for rest of your life.
