true the rs6 is very fast but I think this test is just a bit off.
Why: your fighting the rs6 at his best level. from the low revs the rs6 had more torque. also if you would do it from a standing start it would be harder for the rs6. due to his quattro system and weight it would have a much harder time to beat the M5.
But i will admit its a very fast car :D

It's funny to read this...Why? Most people say to run the M5 from a roll as standing starts are not the M5's best part to highlight.

Now when it gets beat from a roll, we shout "start from a dig...". Come on folks, let's give a big thumbs up to Audi for finally making a competitive car! Great work RS division.

Of course, I'm sure the next gen M5/6 will compensate appropriately and put our favorite car back on top, until then let's give credit where it's due.

hahaha rs6 has is 580 hp and the m5 has 507 with 20'' rims...

is that what the rs6 is capable of doing what a shame .. 73 hp more and not much difference in performance..

just headers is or ecu is enough to beat the rs6 a** ..

am searching for one in uae wanna race it...

any m5's m6's in uae .. wanna see how much my car is capable compare to urs .. no competition just m5board supporters...

and

i have a 2008 M5, alpine white, with 20"inch Hartge Classic 2 rims, in black with red outeline... and all, exterior and interior are carbon made by CA Automotive in UK...

I´m an experienced trackday and race driver... Racing 4 hours Endurance race in a Ferrari 360 Challenge...

I was hired one day at the track to drive around with people, in their cars, and one came to me, this is about 45 days ago, and asked if i would try his RS6, Brandnew... on the track, i can say, it is VERY,VERY heavy in corners, and quick on straights, but a fine compromis between a racecar or a family car it will never be like the M5, which is much more fun on a track, than the RS6 is, The Audi is a very fast familiar luxus car, but forget it on a track... its not even fun...

And i raced an RS6, in my Corvette Z06, and the Audi couldnt follow, AT ALL...

I also have a 135 I, with 270 hp, and 530 NM, and a RS 6 killer, in my BMW 323 TI, with 3,2 M3 engine and a GT35 turbo, 470 HP, and 550 nm from 2500 to 7500 rpm´s to 1250 KG... it can keep up with the corvettet from a rolling start... funny litlle thing...

well, why dont you run against an mtm rs6, and did you ever think of the fact that the rs6 wieghs a ton, but runs like hell

Hi T Bone

Remember this?

http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/e6...-discussion/114445-place-your-bets-rs6-m5-faster-sport-autos-upcoming-test.html

Vote M5 you knobs! Quattro is going to kill the RS6
:dunno:

I am supremely confident that the RS6 will get embarassed at the airfield in the summer. All Audis get embarassed there :7:
:nono:

All the Audi fan bois are going to cry when they see BMW ///M 5 and ///M 6 taillights when you run SSS 4 this summer.
:crying:hiha

My friend, wait until they run heads up on the airfield :)
The wait was worth it

I think in the upcoming videos from your homeland, you will see the mighty Audi act as backmarkers....

They seriously have to think about their whole Quattro story if they want to be serious sports car people. They will never have a serious sports car with Quattro.

You never have enough HP to compensate for the drivetrain losses.
I stand pat with my bet with Cazorp. The E60M5 will kill the new RS6 at Gustav's Supercar Shootout in Sweden 3 and the Nurburgring....

The weight, Quattro are the big issues for this car....

Still, very nice looking. And I feel sorry for the poseur chumps in "sportscars" that are going to get dusted but this thing. :1:

Cazorp, do you concede your wager yet? If you do, it will be a simple method of payment.... A picture of an M Licence plate on your Audi in front of a BMW dealership. If you wish to continue your path of denial that the E60 M5 is faster than the RS6, you will find no refuge with your fellow Audi enthusiasts when you take a picture with them proclaiming that "Audi Sucks".

This is your chance.....
:noSMG:

This is why I am confident in our wager.....

You cannot outpower weight and drivetrain losses..... M5 will kill the RS6.
:nono:

etc. etc.

Yes yes Supra, I won't deny making those comments. My request is for a run for a bone stock M5 vs. a bone stock RS6.

Those 20" wheels will have a material affect on acceleration.

Gustav - can I make this a request for the next run?

#26 ·
Holy crap, I never expected that. I forget what magazine tested the r8 against the rs6 recently (25 secs. to 150 mph vs 23 secs for the rs6). The M5 gets to 150 mph in 20.8 seconds or thereabouts, so I thought it would win. Which goes to show, take what you read in magazines with a pinch of salt.

The sad part is this was against the wagon. Based on this clip, imagine what the sedan is capable of. :eek:h:

I'm staying far away from the rs6:haha:, for now that is.

Actually, after thinking about this some more, I'm not entirely convinced. I know how easily a mild tweak on a turbocharged motor can easily net 100 bhp. Mtm's already pushing over 700 bhp on the rs6. If indeed it is stock, that's mighty impressive.

Audi A6 - Autocar.co.uk

This car is really not that fast, look at the 0-100mph times and the 0-150 mph times.

Nah, I'm not buying it:confused2

go Audi go !!

good job

the RS6 Avant is just a beautiful car

I'd drop my M5 if they brought over the RS4 Avant to the states

Ok...I won't wait for your "official" answer. I believe that before someone makes a statement like "Those 20" wheels will have a material affect on acceleration"...they should at least academically look at if it holds true.

For those thinking that the 20" wheels weigh more...here is exhibit A: a replica M6 wheel in 20" weighing in at 27lbs

BMW M6 Style Wheel 18''/19''/20'' Silver/Gunmetal

Exhibit B: People reporting that the stock 19" M5 wheels weigh 28lbs.

Stock wheels and seat weight? - bimmerfest - BMW Forums

For those that feel that the wheel size will greatly impact gearing:

Exhibit C: A comparison of the effective gear ratios of stock M5 wheel (285/35ZR19 vs prospective 295/30ZR20)

Exhibit D: A comparison of the effective gear ratios of stock M5 wheel (285/35ZR19 vs prospective 305/25ZR20)

Not sure what tire sizes but it is doubtful that it "materially" impacted anything. If the tire height is smaller...it could give it a better effective accelerating gear ratio...

Nice exhibits Tom ;) It is also relevant where the mass is focused on the wheel and the weight of the tyre.

Anyhow we did the run with another M5 so its not a problem.

What could have affected th eoutcome to the RS6 advantage is that it was very cold, between 5 and 10 degrees Celsius. I do not beleive an RS6 or RS6 Avant could replicate this a summer day.

either way, the E60 M5 and the new RS6 are beautiful german cars

nice write up Thomas
