The car was a very special order. Even though it was built in 1993, it was ordered with the facelift bonnet and grill. The build sheet will confirm this.

I'm just trying to see who knows what about the car.

Hi again.
A 'burgundy red coloured' car is indeed being referred to as being one
of the 'mysterious' 400/408 bhp cars. I happen to have some information to whom such a car was given
by the M-GmbH before it was sold on...... however, no VIN confirmation was ever given.

As for the high rate of specifications and options this is obviously not
unusual for a car prepared for an 'international motor show'.

If not a regular modell year 95 car already, the M60-front option note in the vehicle spec list seems to indicate it was NOT, then it
surely was a 'pre-series-95-modell-year' to be presented at the
'Bologna-motor-show' to introduce the E34 M5 3.8 'face-lift' 95 modell year car and as such it was very likely equipped with the
6-speed gearbox and the compound brakes BEFORE the Bologna motorshow.
Whatever, a VERY interesting find and perhaps........who knows.....
Good luck with your research.

Of course it was a 'special order car' built and prepared for the 'Bologna motorshow'. The built sheet shows it as well as the M60-V8-front option, no doubt.
-
Do you know, what was the date of the 'Bologna motorshow' for which this car was 'prepared' for??
Do you have confirmed information that this car was indeed fitted with the 6-speed-gearbox and the compound-brake-package AFTER the 'Bologna motorshow' ?
Do you have any connections/contacts with people who were involved in BMW motorsport-teams, racing in Italy in those days and
are located in the U.K.?? If so, you might find some answers there.

Hi again.
Apparently I got a bit 'carried away and exited' last night :eek
I will now do some home-work, check the actual facts, my files and some archives and revert with my findings/thoughts.:nerd

Meanwhile, have you already checked the engine / gear box numbers ?
If so, what are they ?

GD64079 was built on 1993-10-25 as a -presentation vehicle- for the Motor Show Bologna’ 1993.
It is an 1994 modell year car (VIN GD64000 > GD64334) and thus NOT a modell year 1995 car.

Motor Show Memorial Attilio Bettega Bologna (ITA) 4/12 > 12/12/1993.
The Bologna Motor Show (known as the "Salone internazionale dell'auto e della moto di Bologna" in Italian) is an auto show
scheduled to be held annually in December, in Bologna, Italy.

The 1993 Formula One Indoor Trophy took place on December 4–5 at the Bologna Motor Show. The winner was Rubens Barrichello in a Jordan-Hart.

In Oct 1993 and until 06/94 the 5-speed gearbox and the brakes 315x28 VA, 300x20 HA were used in the assembly at the Garching facilities.
The 6-speed gearbox and the compound brakes package 345x32 VA, 328x20 HA became available as of 06/94 with the beginning of the
model year 95 assembly.
With the introduction of the modell year 1995 E34 M5 sedan/touring,
a face-lift package in accordance with the model year 1995 ‘face-lift’ specifications of the E34 M5 3.8 sedan/touring was offered by the M-GmbH
to all previous owners of an E34 M5 3.8. The price for the package was DEM 26.000 and the car had to be turned in to Garching for the
rebuilt. The rebuilt took appr. 2 weeks and an equially valued M-car was provided to the customer by the M GmbH during the waiting time.

The wide kidney front (as being used in the normal production for the E34 M60/V8-model cars) was available to all customers
as an extra-pay option already from the start of the production of E34 3.8 M5/M5touring.

Some pictures and comments (swedish):

So far so good, it now remains to find proof if this car indeed is one of the few ‘rumoured’ (one confirmed) and
mysterious 400/408 bhp factory cars. There are indeed ‘signs’ in favour, the research continous.........

From what I understand, the Dubai car had a special exhaust but that would not pass EU tests so the 408bhp cars in europe ran the standard exhaust.

So GD64079 has the standard S38B38-engine exhaust system fitted ?
How about the engine-/gearbox-number ?? What is the present mileage ?
Also, a nice picture of the engine bay would be much appreciated to see.

That's really interesting. Is there any documentation for which cars this was done on?
I'm curious for my touring, BL01676, the build sheet data does not list the M60 front end, but it has had it in every picture i've seen (prior to coming to the US). I know it is very likely it was just 'updated' at some point, but would be interesting to know if it was done at Garching.

I assume that facelift95-set also has 6-gang transmission and bigger brakes like all -95 cars?

Good point. My car has neither. That would account for the 26k DM price tag too i suppose.

Hi Mike.
I respect your question and I will answer to it the best I can. However, and I trust you will agree, this subject is somehow 'off topic' and as you refer to your BL01676 touring, I will move your question to the 'E34 M5touring Registry' section.

Have you studied all the 34 pages of this 'thread' incl the inputs made by Signore J.M. Graziadei ?
(btw > he is the owner of the E34 M5touring assembled/prepared at the Garching facilities of the M-GmbH for the 'Motorshow Bologna' in 1992(!)) -
