Does anyone have the 60-130 time for a stock E39 M5? I have seen some numbers floating around 14.3s, but that seems rather slow...
It's very tricky with a manual car... I was "messing around" one time and got only 12.7s. With better focus, I ran 11.6 recently, but my clutch needs to be replaced and I am sure my techniques need improvement as well. Also this is with 3/4 tank of gas, booster seat, etc. So, it's realistic is what I am saying. FWIW below are some 60-130 times for other cars.

NOTE: Only the below runs with an asterisk (*) next to them have been verified by 6speed representive. The accuracy of the other runs can not be guaranteed.

Mmhh

I am guessing the ESS cars are sub 10s.

Which means > F430.....I like !

How much is a VBOX ?

I picked one up for a few hundred. I am surprised not many people use them (here) given we all drive an M car! There are dyno sheet numbers, or even the qualitative "butt dyno" ohh it pulls harder...I think a combination of hard concrete numbers (dyno) AND real world result are the most valid.

I think the car can get into 10s, not sure about sub 10, but stay tuned...

So until someone has some better numbers, I guess I have the fastest recorded 60-130 MPH E39 M5, lol.

Yeah maybe actually.

Here is 80 to 140 in 4th. Seems to do 80 to 130 in about 8 seconds. Need to try it starting in 3rd.

Bring on the Vbox.

Update

I managed to get 11.27. See attached graph. My car recently dyno'ed 545bhp on 91 pump gas. Consider the following E92 M3 6spd with 530bhp and ran a 11.22 and it's a much lighter car... I think it's in the ballpark of a ESS E39 M5's limit.

Kev:

Thanks for data logging your ESS S/C E39 M5 and sharing with us!

I have done a lot of vbox data logging on my CL65 (gone) and my current '09 CTS-V. Your results seem a tad slow for a car with 545hp. My modded CTS-V (automatic) runs an 8.41s 60-130mph and has dynoed 552rwhp. My CTS-V probably weighs a good 250lbs more (and I personally weigh 240+lbs... all muscle weight of course...:S). So it makes no sense that you are 2.8+s seconds behind. It does look like you are losing some time with a shift right above 100mph. But even if you carve out .5s for the shift, you are still 2+ seconds off my time. Did you check the slope of the run? Are you running on an incline? I guess there are some other factors that could contribute to the differences (i.e. ambient weather, elevation, heat soak...etc.). I hope you don't take my post as being "negative" about your car's performance....I just think their is a ton of potential and I want to see you fully realize it. I loved my old E39 M5 and the thought of buying another one and adding a S/C seems extremely enticing!

I think Kevin's car is 545 Flywheel Horsepower.

Do run through 60 MPH or do you start from a cruise at 60 MPH ?

Cheers

Something Interesting

So here is an modded M6 SMG which ran 9.62. What's interesting is the BIG advantage SMG, DCT, and etc. over manual (I could just be a sh*tty driver as well). Comparing my car to this car, we are about even up to 100+ MPH, then I had to shift into 4th and just lost all the momentum and time where as the M6 just kept on pulling! I say after shifting, my M5 did not regain its full acceleration till maybe 120-130MPH, were it is the same again as the M6 exactly at 2.0 seconds.

Still need to do my clutch..

Interesting stuff! Barring rain, I'll be at the track Friday making a few 1/4 mile passes with my Beast and would love to attempt a legal 60-130. I just recently bargained a 101 in a 55 ticket down to 74 in a 55, so doing this on public roads isn't in the cards for me anytime soon.

Problem is, I don't believe a SC'd E39 is fast enough to do this safely on a 1/4 miles track as I will come close to running out of room after the traps and my Brembos will be of no use sitting on a shelf in the garage. Charlie, your HPF M3 traps over 130 so you are fine there. Even your E55 should trap considerably higher than mine. I hope to trap somewhere in the teens (hopefully 115+), but 130 is a loooong way past the traps and I'm not sure yet if I have the cajonas for that. But, if at all possible I will try.

I believe we met at MIR when I was running my CL65. MIR should have plenty of room for you to get a 60-130mph time if you are running anywhere close to the OP. The OP needed 489.84m (1,607.08'). Say it takes you 300' to hit 60mph (if you hit 60 in under 4.5s, it should take under 250') and 1,700' to do the 60-130mph for a total of 2,000'. MIR has 3,022' of run off area after the 1/4 mile mark. So that would afford you nearly 2,400' to stop. I got my CL65 up past 150mph before shutting down with plenty of area to stop.
