PS for the manual folks out there, having been disappointed in the AutoSolutions short shifter I bought, I, with the help of @sreten from M539 Restorations, convinced Rogue Engineering to recreate their E6x M5/M6 short shifter along with making a brand new DSSR for it!

Please, if you’re interested, check it out! I need to convince him it was worth the production cost with a few orders 😂

DSSR - $129
Short Shifter Kit - $349 (includes DSSR)
Rebuildable Selector Rod Joint - $79

What did you not like about the autosolution kit? I really like how they solved ditching the crappy plastic BMW pivot so I'm curious.

Great thread, very helpful!
I’ve almost finished, just need to figure out the dsc changes needed for reusing the tpms button.

ive custom modded the tpms button and designed and 3d printed the discontinued EDC switch panel using the stock edc switch from the smg shift surround.

Nice work. What does it look like illuminated?
It lights up just like it did from the factory.
Looks an awful lot like the car I just watched on E39 Source YouTube channel. That was your car?
Nope not this car. This was done at my shop. At some point I’ll post pics of this on my IG @dr_wrench if anyone cares

Very cool, I've never seen someone change the print on the button and get the backlighting to work, care to share details on that?

How did you mod it and retain factory lighting?

I’m finding it hard to justify $1000 AUD on a new panel for essentially 1 small button
I hear you, I tried to order one and was told it’s NLA for this cars options.

The factory button is made of white plastic, then it is painted black and the option it controls is laser etched into it. The red led then can shine through the exposed white part.

I just stripped the factory TPMS button of its paint then sanded the laser etch out of it. Then I repainted the button black and used a friends laser etcher to do the same as factory.
Last I lightly sanded it smooth and sprayed it with a matte clear.
After a few tries and a couple destroyed e46 test buttons I was able to get this button done.

I will admit that mine isn’t as precise as bmws But is close enough that I’m ok with it.

Any chance you can share the model for the button surround?
