Hi All,

Any idea how many ponds can be shaved from E34 M5 3.6 ?

What will be the grand total curb weight after very very aggressive weight reduction ?

Interior, sunroof, sound insulation, spare tire, all 4 seats, with driver light weight seat, etc..

No carbon panel tricks, all stock !

Thanks
Anri

Anri ,

these E34 M5s are approx 1700kg ...... so that's approx 320kg or 700lbs off !

D

I think you mean the Wagon is about 1700kg right ????

Normal E34 M5 3.6 is weighted about 15XXkg

In this case I think I will go with option #1. The M5 is a bid heavy...

Wout thanks for reply,

After owning 3' E28 M5's, and 7' E24 M6's for the past 6 years. Also driving M6 for daily driver. So I must say I l know both car in bloody details. My daily driver has Dinan suspension, Dinan sway bars adjustable, very narrow tires with throwing stars front 8J 225/45/17, rear is 9J ET19 245/40/17, stress. No spare tire, SLS delete.

My opinion: I would have to say the E28 M5 is absolute nothing to compare the E24.. The impression of driving the E28 M5 is like driving Mini Van.. and all of the cars had suspension with sls delete. The car is very tall the front windshield its almost vertical. You can not fit big tires in the back at the same time the car to be lowered..

Wout, lots of people different opinion but I never felt comfortable with E28 M5 driving fast on corners as with my e24. The M5 it does handle very good compare to other 4 door sedan cars, but compare the e24 m6 i can not say the same..

I own at this moment my 3rd E34 M5. Withe/Black sitting in my garage and I might just do E34 M5 Ring Taxi Replica :D and have fun with it:M5launch: How about that

The engine is only week 285hp M30-B35 Single Cam 2 valve per cyl. If they used M88/3 boosted up to 350-400hp it will be twice as fast.

@ First :D

My friend, we spoke extensively on the phone about this.

As seen in the BMWcar magazine of november, we have a mint M535i. The car has something of 180.000km on but it feels brand new.
I also have an M535i driftcar, 288000km, ex-car of member Midnightsun. I think he can vouch for the car being abused for much of the last years. The seats etc were worn, gearshift action wobbly, etc. Engine puts out about 150 hp out of 218.

However, if I compare even the 288k car to the best E24 I've driven ( I'd say I ve driven about 10, the youngest one being 8 years old at the time) , none of them comes close handling-wise to them. I am pretty sure the M635CSI I maintain is at the top of its game, all bushings, shocks, ARB's new and uprated from stock. The M535i roadcar has NOTHING uprated save for bilsteins and springs. No powerflex, old OEM ARB's, 6yo tires. This car handles perfectly. Drifting at speeds over 80mph, no sweat. Car feels planted all the time.

The E24's simply feel wobbly, they don't center that well after cornering, you can feel the weight of the car not liking to be shifted around. The E28's seem much more edgy, planted and round into corners rather than ' box ' into corners. Ofcourse, the aerodynamics are beyond crap, but our Alpina B7 ( featured this month in BMWcar) has regularly outran much newer BMW's including coupe's. As far as tires go, on a stock M535i, we run E39 M5 OEM rims with 265's out back ( many members such as Hugo and DickRS have seen this car at ATP PApenburg for drifting) and this is no problem at all. No arch work.

I'd like to try an e24 with a welded cage some time, but for now, no E24 I;ve ever used, and I made damn sure they were up to spec, has ever given me the confidence the E28 gives.

Perhaps I should come down to CA to be convinced :D

Brother Wout,

I always enjoy talking with you. :byebye:

In a few days I am working on a E24 M6 chassis, deal. If that thing happen B36 engine will replace the US 260hp.

Let me build the car and next time when you come in vacation/sweet California Tri-angle like you were saying.

I will take you the ButtonWillow race track and have fun all day long, then Big Willow, were speed matters... we will have some fun together my friend. I am sure you will start searching a car and copy my toy :checkeredflag:

E28 528i was used by bmw teams and later replaced by E24 635csi JPS cars for a reason. The 635csi JPS car never give good results but durability on 24hours.. Because they never used build in M88/3 engine. I wish the M88/1 with ~470hp build motor was used in the JPS 635 cars... The Jag had ~420hp, Volvo's ~340 called turbo terror, Ausi comodore had GM V8 and the poor M30 with single cam 2 valve per cyl had only the funny 285hp and max rev were about ~6500. And they still had some very close lap time results, being form the first 4 places on the final results.
