Bypassing the EWS

Recently, I posted that I had a faulty key and it left me stranded and required a tow. So being the hands on type of guy I am, I am determined that this will not happen again. I am ordering a new key but I also want to bypass the EWS using hidden switches that in the event this happens to another key, I can flip the switch and completely bypass the EWS and be on my way. There is a lot of info for E36s on the net, but I've yet to find anything for the E39. I believe we use EWS III. Anybody ever done anything like this or know anyone I could talk to that has done it?

I transplanted a Euro 3.2 into an E30. The Euro 3.2 has EWS 2. There is no way to bypass the EWS on that as far as I could find out. I doubt you will be able to bypass EWS 3. For some reason on the US E36 M3s, you can cut wire 66 IIRC to bypass EWS, but that appears to be an exception rather than the rule. You could see if somebody can reprogram the ECU to disable the feature. I think I talked to Shadowman about this, but I can't recall what he said.

I may give shadowman a call, see what he says. There has to be a way. I'm going to pour through the wiring diagrams tonight, see what I can come up with...

so...when it comes down to it, ews is pretty much worthless unless theives are clueless on what they are doing. meaning, ews just makes our lives complicated...:dunno:

i had to tow my car once because an aftermarket software vendor did not properly align ews. of course the vendor insisted that i put my key in the ignition while ecu was out and i insisted on how there was no chance of that since i put the key away until i put ecu back on. at the end of the day, i incurred tow fee as well as ews alignment fee. :grrrr:

Having just fitted a 2001 M5 engine into a 1995 M5 I know ALL about EWS/DME alligning and how to get around the factory system

Unfortunately these cars are a lot easier to steal than most people think with the right parts. I'm not posting details on the board for obvious reasons but if you want to know how to run your car without a key then PM me and I can give you more details :)

But I have to say that if I had an E39 M5, no way would I bypass what is after all a great security device for all but the most dedicated thieves. If someone wants your car then they will get it, regardless of what anti-theft measures you have, but the EWS eliminates all but the most determined attempts

London mike knows of a way?
Damn ews system.

His car intermittently wont start because of the ews.
It'll run for a month then it'll stop starting and cycling the key 200 times will make it work for a month.
He tried giving the ews different voltages lol but no go

I know away also but I am sure that it would be easier to fix what exists. You say it is intermittent, So when it won't start what does it do? IE nothing , cranks but won't start , different symptoms say different things. I posted the PDF so you would come back and say these are the symptoms and it is ews __? 528 I am guessing is a ewsII but you don't give the year of the car. If you say cycling the key brings things back with out realigning with the DME it will be something like a bad key or dead antenna, something easily fixed. If the EWS has to be constantly realigned that will be different.

I'm pretty sure it wasn't cranking or anything but I could be wrong. I'm gonna go talk to him later.
I remember him mentioning that its not the signal to the starter but to the injectors..
Its an EWSIII.

Ill find out and report back.
He has the DIS/GT1 with the coding head.
The coding "button" was grayed out when he went to try and get into it.

You have no posts and you are asking to disable the EWS system? Hmmm. There is a member here that offers this service and the way he does it you would have to have the car so I guess this won't be aiding theft. If you search EWS and use the user name blackknight530i then post in that thread he may post back to you or start a new thread and add @ in front of his name so he gets a notice. He will probably read this thread but may have alarms going off like I do.

As said up in the post it is likely caused by a simple issue why don't you gain some credibility and answer all the questions I asked of Rosemount.

@Sailor24 I completely understand your alarm bells, just to make myself clear I actually used to have a different profile on here but when the forum updated a few years ago I actually lost all my details and my email accounts due to a lovely bit of cyber theft on the playstation network. My old profile name was "Bungle383" and I spoke to you in particular regarding a few issues I had when I originally bought my car. Since then I actually haven't been very active due to a few reasons, one my work takes a lot of time off my hands, two I have never been a big forum using kinda guy and three because of some of the overly pretentious responses I have seen on some of the posts, due to a lot of owners being very "OEM is best" and "just supercharge it". In fact you're one of the few people on here that is very helpful.

In fact just to maybe give you a little peace of mind there is a picture of my car on this forum in the spotted section, you will have to go back to around june/July 2012 but the VRN is W***OAG and it's a Silverstone MYDec99.

Anyway enough of that, the reason why I asked for @London Mike is because I'm from the UK and I am actually track prepping the car and wanted to do away with keys altogether. The other reason why I asked if there was any easy way round is because I'm in the British forces based in Germany and I don't get much time to travel with the car to various people to work on it so I have to do it myself. You can check my Instagram account (silas383) if you need a little more confirmation.

Thanks for your time and as I said before I do completely understand the alarm bells ringing.

Seems reasonable. If you are in the UK try contacting Evolve or other tuner companies. Basically you present your DME they take it and recode it. I don't know if it can be done remotely. It is not a complicated procedure.
You could always try a visitor message to Mike you don't need posts for that. Click his name choose public profile and then visitor message. He has not posted since 2015 so ....
