Who says M5's are expensive to maintain?

I have been poking around for a stablemate for my beautiful
M5. The only candidates have been the equally stunning
M6 or GT-R aka Godzilla which have depreciated into my
Price range all of a sudden.

Was reading a Automobile mag long term report on GT R and
the thing is reliable but seems to be a crazy regarding
maintenance intervals at least if your doing your service at Nissan.

At 18000 miles mandatory fluid(diff and trans) changes are $2000 plus brakes and rotors required
so out of pocket $7700-$8000, no free maintenance like BMW. Suddenly our
$250 oil changes seem like chump change.

Haha! Unicorn semen does demand a premium!

Yeah it's insane. I'm not slagging the GTR, it's a wicked
Machine that I would like to have sitting next to my
M5 but the maintenance seems excessive based on
My inital research. A $7700 bill for 18k service that includes
Brakes and rotors is not a pill I want to swallow
In addition the fluid changes are needed every 18000 miles
Not to mention the pricey other service intervals.

One more thing about the GTR... Just make sure you don;t bump your front bumper into a pole or anything.. cause your "pedestrian safety system" might kick in and there goies another 30k!!!! LOL

I heard the same thing when I test drove (2) GTRs at different dealers so I went to the service dept. to confirm to make sure this was not an Urban Legend. It is $3000 for all 4 brakes. Didn't know about the 18K mile service or I would haves asked (this was a year ago when I was shopping so they were still pretty rare).

I went with an M5 and am happy about the service costs thus far.

There are ways around it. I would never pay $7000 to any dealer, especially nissan. They provide truely pathetic customer service. I had nissans for 8 years and never had a good experience.

You can buy your own pads/rotors for a fraction of the cost. I don't know which brand is recommended by GT-R owners. As for fluids, I know you can buy your own and take it to the dealer and save. Check out NAGTROC forums if you haven't done so. I think this is one of best GT-R forums with lots of useful information. Search there and you'll find one of sponsors who sells all the OEM fluids for much cheaper price. Members on that forum zn also help out with pads/rotors. There a few former M5board members here who now own GT-R and I am sure they can help out.

No new GTR coming. This one will have an 8 year run. The GTR Spec-V "may" be coming to the US but not finallized yet due to the economy and poor sales of standard GTRs. No kidding, pay $85K for a supercar then charge crazy money for service? Sounds like the 'ol inkjet printer sales model to me.

I'm holding out for the F10 M5 and/or a used R8 5.2 V10 when they are a cuple of years old. For now the E60 M5 is plenty good for me.
