What's Your Mileage

With the rise in prices of used cars here in the US I've been seeing alot of E60s being sold all such low mileage for the in some cases now 15 year old car sub 40k-50k miles range... 3-4k miles a year maybe. Why? Does no one love to drive there cars? I don't understand owning something you don't even want to enjoy. SO I'm just taking a small pole here to see what everyone's mileage is sitting at.

I'm at 100k. 1900 miles of my own in 3 months of ownership and its winter up here in Michigan.

11/2005 '06 with 125k miles. Bought in dec 2012 with about 78k miles. It was my only car and daily for 5-6 years but since its become just a weekend/fun car I've been racking up way fewer miles. I've definitley racked up a good amount on road trips including my move from Houston to Orlando and back then from Houston to DC and back to Houston a few years later. I plan on driving it till the wheels fall off.

09/2005 102K and looks like I've put 13k on in two years which surprises me - I drive it more than I thought. I was killer lucky to find this at 90k having only had the original owner prior. Since I did the bearings at 100k I drive it every chance I get even if it's just moseying to work and back. Our family truck is a 21' Suburban and it's great, but I just don't like driving a bus everyday.

I’m at 173,000 miles and 10 years — on my second or third duty cycle on just about everything. Mechanically my e60 is a 10/10. Cosmetically she’s more of an 8/10, with the normal 173,000 miles of road patina, which salt and peppered my front end.

I think I picked up the car at 28,000 miles. She still is 1 of 4 cars, and was my SoCal to NorCal/Vegas/Phoenix “commuter” to see my clients for years. Believe it or not, it was so much easier/quicker to drive v fly to those cities.

I think I put 70,000 miles on her, over two years, at one point. These days she still gets the nod for roadtrips and is still a daily driver, but my daily routine changed to spending more time on a plane — 2020 not included. What is crazy, for me, I went from flying on a plane at least once or twice a month for the last 20 years to sitting at home since March of 2020. I’m surprised my wife and daughter have not thrown me out!

My opinion — scared owners make poor owners. Many owners are too scared to drive them because they don’t want to address any deferred maintenance. They may sell them under the benefit of low miles, but caveat emptor deferred maintenance . At this point, never mind the mileage, almost all the rubber bits have aged out. And we have lots and lots of rubber bits!

Unfortunately, the used s85 market is a minefield of deferred maintenance, if you don’t have full documentation.

2006 M5 acquired in June of 2019 after it just had a high $$$ complete motor and SMG rebuild. I spent most of the next year working through a complete interior swap out from silverstone to full black and carbon fiber / red accents. I also did a full refresh of all the suspension, brakes, wheel bearings and other remaining driveline components. I've put close to 3k miles on it over the past 6 months and only had two issues to date - failed exhaust cam sensor and failed batteries in the siren alarm module that were easy to replace. Its a keeper.

2010 M5 SMG, purchased early 2018 with 104,020km (64,635mi)
Currently 120,103km (74,628mi)

Bought it from a BMW dealer for $21,500CAD ($16,800 US) in southern Ontario Canada. Had a platinum BMW service contract to 2017 and most major items had been completed but still quite a bit of deferred maintenance. Had a carproof for front quarter panel and the interior was owned by someone who smoked and had long fingernails.

Thousands later the car is mint inside and out. It's been a fun hobby and a great drive. Bearings, suspension, and other issues here and there addressed. It's not going anywhere anytime soon!

My car is coming up on 107k miles, I bought it with 92k almost 2 years ago. I’ve done all the big maintenance items besides TAs, as well as SMG work, however still get a hiccup with that every so often (does not affect drivability). I drive my car how it is suppose to be driven.

thank you for making this thread. Sometimes I get sad knowing I could have bought a lower milage example for what I paid, but some of you guys give me hope that I’ll get a lot more years out of mine.

07 3 pedal sitting at 109 and change. It's dumb, but I'm excited to take a picture when I hit 111,111 this year.

As an aside, since I did headers/tune I track my mileage with the fuelio app, and average 13-15 mpg between fill ups around town and keeping up with/exceeding traffic on the highway 85-100mph. Cruising on the highway I can kiss 19mpg at 65 mph with cruise control on.

Anyone else track how much premium they burn?

07/2006 42k. Bough her last June at a Lexus dealer in NC. Poor thing was sitting in the back lot for a few months. They couldn't sell it so I ended up getting her for ridiculous price plus the dealer paid 50% of what was found from the PPI. She also came with an extra set of aftermarket wheels that I sold. Just finished up with a boatload of PM and she's never run better. Funny thing is I saw this car for sale the the DC area a couple years ago and wanted it so bad then. Crazy how things happen.

2008 w/ 67K miles - only had it one year though and put maybe 2K in that time. Covid. Nowhere to go in CA. Bleh. Nothing is open.

My buddy has the same year that he bought almost new and his is up around 130K at this point. On original bearings too I might add. I know and I'm sure he knows - it's time. I plan to do mine between 70-75K.

2008 6spd. Purchased with 28K and at 53K now. I haven't driven much in the past two years due to knee surgery on my left leg in 2019 and 2020 was a downer for travel or leisure and working from home. I may part with the car this year, since it's still painful to use the clutch pedal. But! The car has always been current on maintenance.

Mines on about 86k miles. I think it was on around 60-65 when I bought it. I bought it from the second owner who’d had it nearly since new (first owner had it around 1yr or less from memory). He was very good with normal servicing etc but not a diy guy and not really any proactive maintenance. But it came with full documentation from new, all the service history and was driven regularly but not long distances. I drive it plenty, always in p500 and always in manual mode (s5 or s6). It’s such a fun car.

2007 @ 120K. Just replaced the rod bearings and she needed them bad... several were showing copper. Never tracked, never flogged except interstate on ramps, the wife's DD and she never even puts it in "M" mode. So if you haven't already I would strongly recommend you get yours knocked out. One less variable to worry about.
