Black M5 recently asked 'what's the fastest car we've driven?' and got some impressive responses.

Now for nostalgia, let's think back to some of the great clunkers we had. I bet you those were probably some of the best time we ever had driving too.

For starters, mine was a 1966 Ford Fairlane, baby pink with 6 cylinders. Unfortunately, only 4 were working   My first car and bought used in 1970 for $200.

How slow was it? Suffice to say that I got pulled over, on my first date, by a Berkeley campus police, for going too slow and obstructing traffic. Made a great impression on my dream girl

I believe I've never gotton it over 55 mph, even AFTER I overhauled the engine. Somehow, kind of like the M5, everytime I think of my Fairlane, my heart warms and a smile comes onto my face.

Now bring on the memories.

Slowest car....

My '93 GMC Typhoon. Sure it had 285 turbocharged horsepower, but if you average out all of the time that it spent at the dealership it was then the slowest thing out there. 3 times it was in for at least two weeks while I waited to the leaf springs to get fixed. Then I also went through 6 starters. This was all in a span of 3 years....

Actually, the slowest car I have driven is the Toyota Corolla that the dealership gives out as loaner cars. Let me tell you, it is quite a shock to go from the M5 to the Corolla and then back to the M5.

Dear departed Grandpas Peugeot 607.

He only did a mile a day, never over 20mph.

Dad and I took the car out to the shops one day, and it absolutely refused to go over 39mph. Too choked up after years of this treatment.

The slowest I've driven was an '81 Ford Escort wagon with 3 speed auto. It was 2nd gear and floored to maintain 45 mph on a small hill. Thank goodness it was a company car on a summer job. I also rode in a Datsun 1200 automatic. It could barely maintain 45mph on level ground, forget hills. Also slow was a friends early 60's VW van when loaded with people.

as said:
I could never tell the exact speed because the speedo needle would sway between 45-55 mph.
Hahaha I remember those... I laugh so hard when I see that. LOL
If the needles in the M5 swayed like that...

Officer: you were going at 100 mph
M5 Driver: No I was going 65 mph maybe 66 I cant tell cuz the speedo slightly sways between 65 and 155 so I just take the lowest reading closest to the speed limit

Slowest car I ever driven, ummm 1983? Toyota Corolla... Dont know what the specs are :confused2:

My slowest car was a '80 Chyrsler Cordoba. Even with the 409, the carburator leaked so much that it never had any power. Got less than 5 mpg. Drove it for a year back and forth to work which was less than 1 mile away. Forget about using reverse when it was cold -- after that wonderful transmission slammed into gear, it would stall every time. I got the car for free so I'm not complaining too much.

I'm not old at all, and barely driving for a year (life's tough at 18yo) so my pick would have to be a Nissan pickup which belongs to my friend. ~110hp on 1700kgs won't get you much.. driving fast with it is really scary when the road is uneven. of course the steering seems to be a stick connected to a spring with nothing else in the end, and the rear end's suspension is much harsher than the one in front, thus making the rear end a difficult life at trying to keep track with the front. IMHO, these cars are sad jokes. to be fair, it's nice for powersliding (power, there? where?) in the dirt, though. i can still do better than my friend with my front wheel drive car and some proper use of the handbrake :hihi:

god i want a RWD car. god, i want a BMW :D

LOL with each and every post. :haha: :haha:

Just as I thought, the fast cars delivers all the thrills, and the slow ones delivers all the chills. But isn't that a hoot to think back re such indellible driving memories?

Thanks for the stories so far.

Good one chunpng. Infact i never thought of this one !

let me see here..hmm i think the slowest car was a toyota pick up my driver used to have. I think it had a 4 cylinder 1.6 and barely clocked 80~90 !!! Next up was my 90' Suzuki Vitara (sidekick in US) before i turbocharged it :haha: .... I bet someone will point out that no car gets away without tunning when it falls in my hands ;)

After i got the turbo, it went from 13 seconds 0-60 down to the 7's and red lined in fifth at 125 mp/h within 2 kms (1.2 mile)!!!

1976 MBZ 240D...something like a 2.4l inline 4 diesel...probably made somewhere in the 70hp range. That poor thing struggled to get up to 55 everytime, but it was what I learned to drive in...quirky things like a pull starter (had to pull out to 2 position to heat up the old glowplugs then pull to turn the thing over...push the starter in to kill the engine...needless to say, valets never really understood that car). My first experience with "Diesel Thunder"...was replaced by a 300td with a blistering turbo inline 5...those diesels could pull a semi out of the mud, but you couldn't get out of your own way at speed.

Marco (thanks for the memories)...

A friend's 1990 Ford Festiva. I had it for a weekend. The thing got something like 70 mpg with a top speed of 47mph. 0 to 60 was about a minute! :hihi: :haha: :hihi: :hihi:

Okay, so 0 to 60 was more like 20 seconds, but it felt like minutes if you ask me!

Runner-up: Renault Twingo!
