Paste wax !! To make carnauba liquid a lot of non-wax "stuff" is added, like petroleum products ect. that do nothing for your car. I highly recommend you take a look at www.autopia-carport.com it is a terrific detailing website with a lot of great information and the forum is the best I have found on the subject.
And when it comes to wax, Pinnacle Souveran is a real stand out !

 

Paste!!! Remember that $1500 lifetime wax from Zymol? That one was just a block of wax in it's purest form. That should tell you that a paste wax is actually closer to that "block" of wax than a liquified one.

The sad thing is, I'm not using paste wax yet. I've got to use up my bottle of hi-tech yellow wax first before I can switch over but then again I've got that P21S paste wax. Maybe I'll use that instead. Heheh....

 

Most definately paste wax. As Atomic80 touched upon, a pure block of carnauba is harder then concrete. Wax manufacturers break down the block and add ingredients to it to make it more usuable to wax your car. For example, a Zymol Cleaner Wax has about 9-15% cannauba in it due to all the ingredients to break it down while the Zymol Concours has 51%!! All of the good level carnauba waxes that I know of need to be applied in a warm setting. Many of the Zymol waxes actually need you to melt the wax inyour hand before applying to the car since there is so much carnuaba in them. Go paste wax. It may take a while longer apply but you will get better clarity, shine, and depth out of your paint. Some good waxes; P21S. Pinnacle Sovereign, Zymol paste waxes, Blitz, and I have heard Greg talk a lot about Meguiars also. Good luck.

 

I think paste last much longer, but liquid is much easier to apply. I just did a coat of Yellow Wax Past #26. What a work out. Cant wait to get my PC polisher!!!!

 

Paste Wax. Blitz wax is known as the longest lasting Carnauba wax. However, if your M5 is a daily driver and you don't have time to clay and wax it every month, you should look into using polymer waxes that last minimum 6 months. Check out the Autopia forums from the link that James provided.

 

Paste wax is better but it leaves swirl marks on dark paint.............so liquid is better for the darker coats of paint.......

I just picked up my friends 2002 911tt which was almost wrecked......the body shop is the only body shop in the U.S. certified to do "factory work" for porsche,bmw,audi.......They said the best wax to use is something called bananna wax which is very difficult to get.........but for us common folk they say the meguiars is the best stuff we can buy............better than zymol........and as far as car wash goes ...............they say zip car wash by turtle wax is hands down the best, believe it or not.........The most important thing when waxing your car they say is to use an orbital buffer not the crap ones you by for $50.........because the smallest amount of pressure on a normal buffer and it does not rotate.........

 

I use both. I prefer liquid if I'm applying by orbital, paste if applying by hand. I have used both liquid and paste versions of Meguiar's Gold Class and 3M's wax - and there is NO difference in the end result. The liquid has more solvents that have to evaporate out - so you use more. You probably use a few cc's of paste to do a while car, and 20 or 30 cc's of liquid. I think it is mostly a question of economics and preference.

I have used Liquid Glass on my '69 Vette (own since new) for the last 30 years. Also have used Liquid Glass on several Benz's, my '97 540I and my '00 M5.

My cars have always looked great. I wax them at least every two months, not because they need it but it's just my style.

I have read many threads about waxes in the past. Am I the only Liquid Glass user?

I too have used Liquid Glass for several years on my 1991 Corvette, my 1998 M Roadster and now on my 2002 M5.

Looks great, is easy to use, and the finish just gets better looking with more coats.

I've got all of the other products, Megulars, Zymol, etc. I haven't used any of them since I started using Liguid Glass.:cheers:

 

Paste. I use P21S wax (yes, same people who make the wheel cleaner), and it's carnuba. I finish it with Meguiar's detail spray to make sure I get all the crusty powedery stuff off, though I usually do only a section at a time and don't let it dry first. Eagle One has a detail spray, too, that seems slipperier, so I may use that next time when the Meguiar's runs dry.
