I have found over the years that the one thing that seems to be the hardest to find is a really good bodyshop that;

a) Does really top notch work i.e. factory standard or better.

b) Doesn't break/bend/scratch trim pieces

c) Bodge repair any items they do break rather than simply phoning you to get the OK to replace the part.

I know that good paint is expensive and TO A POINT don't mind paying for it.

So, does anyone have good experiences with a bobyshop in the south of England?

In my experience avoid BMW bodyshops like the plague. When I had some paintwork done under warranty they made a real mess of it, it was appalling. Runs, areas of pain that were only 3 microns thick, inclusions, fish eyes, woeful polishing and micro blisters that appeared after a few months (probably due to water under the paint). After three attempts I gave up and had to had it re-done elsewhere.

Ask a good local detailer, they will know who is good and who isn't.

Finishline in Graveley, Herts. Proprietor Chris is BMW trained so knows his way around the cars, and is an utter perfectionist. His customer service is also outstanding - unusually good for this day and age.

I know lots of people who use them and I've never heard a bad word said.

AP McCarthy in Streatham.

Excellent customer service, sensible prices and a really good finish. Been using Tony for years on a variety of cars and he's never let me down yet...

Only downside is that he's basically a one man band so if he's busy, he's busy.

Chaplane in Colchester, Essex seem very good. I've not used them myself but have had a tour of their premises and they seem very professional. Most of the cars in there for work were Porsches, Astons and Bentleys, so they are used to delivering a flawless finish!

Try Motor Care They are BMW, Aston Martin, VAG approved. We use them through work and have never had a problem and they have a low loader that would come and collect the car and bring it back to you.

Ask for Gio and tell him Alex from SMG recommended him. I am going to get some paintwork done by them on my beast early next year.
