Shop with manual conversion experience - East Coast?

Hey guys. I'm really leaning into the manual conversion on my M5 and no way I can tackle this myself. I'm in Raleigh, NC and my go-to shop hasn't done one before. They are willing to take it on, and I trust their work, but can't help but think in a case such as this, I'd rather have someone who can get right to it because they've done it before. Probably quicker, and easier for the both of us. I would consider shipping the car as well as long as the distance isn't too crazy.

I believe he locates the trans, you buy that, have it shipped to him and he takes care of the rest including parts and labor.

Keep us updated, we may be able to do a group deal. I have a 6spd trans coming in a couple weeks and I've found a custom driveshaft shop that'll either build an aluminum driveshaft or lengthen the SMG shaft.

Per @specialized2010 suggestion I was going to look into Alex over at Amp Autowerks since he's the closest and has done the swap before.

Would love to participate in a group deal. As much as I would love Ryan to handle it, I don't think I can add $3k to the project in just shipping. That would probably put it close to $15k.

Had a really good conversation with Alex last night. He did say the transmissions are getting hard to find and I can confirm as much. I'm sickened by the guys who did this a year or two ago and found a trans for sub $2k. Seems like $3k is the going rate now if you can even find one. And even then those have 100k+ miles.

Alex told me it was around $3k in labor alone. If the trans costs me $3k, $1k in clutch and flywheel, $500 driveshaft, $1k to account for other miscellaneous items that puts me at $8500 and that's assuming nothing else is needed. I'm not sure how to do this for less than that.

If you rub your shaft enough, it will turn blue.

That said, I never liked the OEM boot. I swapped mine out for an alcantara one from Coby Wheel Home - Coby Wheel

Memories:(, I had a shot at four different transmissions for about $2k and lost them all. Got lucky and snagged one from Canada with the flywheel and clutch for $3k all in after another four months went by. If you have even the slightest notion that you made want to swap grab a transmission soon.

Please, please, please don't put the factory shifter in, its horrible. Put in the Z3M in or even better an AAF with an adjustable DSSR. I am on a RTD and have been through the other two. If anyone wants to take a drive in my car just let me know.

Look at AAF
@Fiftytwoeighty has one.

It's seems expensive but if you consider it comes with the DSSR its completive. They have a great video showing how everything is adjustable. Left, right- Fore, Aft- shifter height. They are in Spokane and offered to make an adaptor for an E60 from a template and photos.

My RTD is the shorter version and is perfect if you are resting your arm on the center console. You can always wait but the exhaust and shields have to come out to make the change later.

i'll say! that's less than a third of what it runs now.
