"In general, the S85 is an overall reliable engine if used wisely and regularly serviced as indicated by the manufacturer bean counters. Some frequent problems with the VANOS were signaled by clients. The connecting rod bearings are subject to premature wear-out and need replacement every 80,000 kilometers on average.

Like 15,000 mile oil intervals?

Meanwhile the Geniuses at BMW are coming up with campaigns like this. How odd to denigrate their own flagship vehicles of yesteryear and (somewhat accurately) depict its own reliability. If they chose the E60 M5 instead of the E38 they could have thrown a dig about rod bearings or having throttle bodies, how last century is that!

Welp... BMW has always been an “industry first” manufacturer — by denigrating their earlier generations, they certainly are at the forefront. They are literally calling their twin brother ugly.

In my opinion (and opinions are like a55h0les, because everyone has one), this is further evidence BMW has lost their way.

Way to go Bavarian Marketing Works!
