Hello Board.

I got my Rod Bearings done at S & V auto repair in Pomona, CA. ( sandvautorepair.com ) Came highly recommended from a very well known member here. They did a great job, and were honest about the whole process and total $ was very reasonable. The main mech owns an e39 M5 and is very knowledgeable, Lane was great as well. Anyway on to the pics. Bearings are at 100k miles, tops were worn, but not so much at the bottom.

RK Supercharger - Mainly did the bearings because of this. I plan on running Meth once I see how everything goes once installed. Thanks Jamie for answering my 100 questions. Customer service here is pretty top notch.

How my M5 sits right now. It's pretty low. I got my fenders rolled and my plastic cut so I don't rub. 15mm up front to clear the ST's. on a square setup. Ill update this thread on how my M5 turns out. Any questions, hit me up! thanks for looking

I'm glad you bounced back from the incident at GMR so quickly. Can't wait to see this done.

#3 ·
I'm gonna take a wild guess that "GMR" stands for some Mountain Run? Cooling and paint work, umm... Good luck with the project!

#4 ·
Correct! Uhh.. Thank you! :M5thumbs:

Car looks great.

If you'd like to share why don't you do a breakdown of the cost of the rod bearings and labor.

Now I'm curious about this GMR, which I can only assume is some really badass mountain road somewhere around Glendora with lots of turns.

GMR = glendora mountain road
the main section is about 9.2 miles of average 6-7% incline that includes a good amount of corners. after the incline it breaks off into two directions. i love riding this section on my road bike (specialized tarmac). sad that im living in new york for another 2 years. car back in cali still.

Ok well I'm off to the EAS dyno! Going to see what I'm putting down. Finally broke in the supercharger. Ill post a video of it getting dyno'd today.

On a side note, no surprise here but I absolutely destroyed my buddy's e92 M3 this morning after work. Just wanted to share that :)

Well it's 91 degrees over here in Anaheim and my air intake temps went as high as 120 degrees. Best run was the last one at 477.68 whp and 409.08 wtq this was consistent with the first run will post proof when I'm home not bad for a hot day

Yikes, I don't think you're supposed to see the copper on those bearings. The ones next to it were well on their way too. Looks like that one spun? How'd the crank look?

#16 ·
Believe it or not everything was fine it barely knocked when it started but as soon as it came i got them replaced right away

:eek:oohhh: holy rod bearings batman!
hiha

Will do, I have to get the file from EAS they only gave me a printout but they saved my file. Ill send when I get it. Thank you

With that being said. I believe my next step is to get my meth kit hooked up:haha: and run my car on a cooler day. I was in 91 F traffic for 30 mins plus when I got there we did the runs. I believe it was heat soaked. So after I send RK my file they tweak and I will dyno again, except ill be running meth and hopefully the whether will have cooled down.

Stock clutch?

#20 ·
Well I've been running stage 1 for around 2000 miles now and it's been bulletproof so far. I have my meth kit but I'm getting that installed this weekend with the hommie :). I'm going to be needing an upgraded clutch because mine now slips due to the extra power. Looks like those DXD Southbend clutches are pretty tough, thinking stage 3. Either that or a uuc v12 setup.

#21 ·
I was thinking uuc v12 to. How ya feel about the car now? Fast? Been to track/and or in any street races?

Met up with Steve (havasusteve03beast) and Ruben (Silent) on Saturday. Let me say that Steve is AWESOME, one of the coolest guys I have ever met. His willingness to help and hospitality was just amazing. And thanks to Ruben, his pursuit for perfection scares me. These guys put in there whole saturday to help me out and I cant say thank you enough. If you guys ever need anything let me know I mean it. Ok now with that <3 being said we decided to put a nozzle pre supercharger and two nozzles post supercharger as you can see in the pics. Ruben was able to perfectly drill through the CF and the cut/thread and seal is perfect. We used JB weld to make sure we had the best seal before fully threading the fitting to the CF piping. Steve put the kit together and pretty much settled everything in. After the dirt, sweat, tears, and (Steves)blood this is the outcome. Thanks guys!

Nice stealth setup, sits in the cubby area under the tray.

Plan on wrapping all hoses in that mesh protector cover.

cool sh*t man! sooooo when does this sh*t spray ?

#28 ·
Well time for an update..
Added stoptech drilled and slotted rotors and brake pads.
Steve hooked me up with methanol :) thanks brotha!
And I finally got my two gauges put in place. The boost gauge is custom by speedhut and has the ///M5 logo etched in. Also the color matches the cluster.
Added some 295 hankooks to fill up the rear.

Got some other things planned.. Exterior and performance wise

X3izM, I’m new to the broad and I’ve a 2001 M5 with 100k so I’m thinking about ESS supercharger but like to make sure the rid bearings is robust. Do you have positive experiences with SV auto as I’m near Pomona area. Thanks!

If you are doing rod bearings, get the ones that are TWC treated. Lower oil pan is dropped to access. If you have to pull them out to check them, might as well replace. Back in the day, job was about $1200-1500 worth of labor, plus parts. If supercharging, not a bad idea to replace rod bearings, it will give you peace of mind.

Jerry

Apparently I can't edit. Make that WPC treated.

Wow, what an old thread.

rod bearings on s62don’t encounter same issues as most modern bmw’s, but if that’s what you want.

SV auto is no longer in business but I can put you in touch with the mechanic who did the work.

Talk about nostalgia.. lol. Haven’t logged in on this account in a few years. Ended up selling this to buy my first house back in 2016. (Best investment ever) lol. I really miss this car and the community. I have an E46 M3 that I picked up after the M5, currently selling but I lookout for M5s from time to time. I hope everyone is well, it has been a while.

I’m in San Dimas, we should put a meet together soon or perhaps join one. I disabled my IG so I lost contact with a few peeps. Do you still have your M5?
