Removing Cigarette Lighter Tray?

Yet another spill due to the cheap cupholder. The guy responsible for designing this contraption is a genius :confused3. Everything is all sticky and the cigarette lighter flap is all sticky whenever I try to open it. Does anyone know how to remove the cigarette lighter/cupholder tray?

Given the pictures from euro dash conversion instruction, it looks like I need to remove the center nav trim, the climate controls and cupholder to get at the screws that seem to hold the front tray. I can pop off the bottom of the climate control panel, but the top seems to be screwed in. All that aside from having to remove the center console too.

Forget it. I figured it. After removing the cupholder:

1. Pic#1: Dig hand into cupholder slot and pop out the lower accessory control from behind. Unplug it.

2. Pic#2: Dig hand into lower accessory control slot and pop out the climate control from behind. Unplug it.

3. Pic#3: Unscrew the screws on each corner.

4. Pic#4: Unscrew the center storing partition (cupholder/cigarette lighter tray). Unplug the lighter.

a_ok; 1 word. Ultimatecupholders!
Best $50 I have spent on an accessory for any vehicle.

Nothin but bottled water in my vehicles...no need for cupholders!
Ditto ...

But I will agree that they're one of the worst designs BMW has ever come up with.
Not so. The 2002 tii had the radio in the worst spot. Every time you selected 3rd gear your knuckles would press one of the radio station selection keys. The only reason I didn't buy one. Really. It just took me a few years to figure out that BMWs where probably one of the best cars built ... even with their "problems."

Great info a_ok2me,

My cig lighter tab holder is out of place, so it will not snap back down in the closed positions. Thought I could take out the tray by simply removing the 4 screws accessable under the shifter boot and behind the cupholder. Guess I gotta take out a few more things to get the tray out.

Thanks for the info and pics!!!
