Hi Guys,
I just tried to remove the CD magazine from my wife's 2000 model 540i, but it will not eject! When I press the eject button I hear the electrical mechinism moving as it makes a sound, trying to pop out the CD magazine from the actual CD changer unit, but it won't pop out. It appears to be stuck somehow. I tried it several times without success! When I use the radio menu button to try to access the CD and activate & play a CD disc, the NAV screen states there is no CD magazine in the CD changer. What gives? Is there anyway to remove the CD magazine manually without damaging anything???
I don't want to bring my wife's car into the dealer for this matter, since her car no longer has a warranty, and I don't want to pay a hefty price for something minor as a CD changer.
Thank you.

Chet ........

How can I tell if it's actually the Alpine CD changer? It is a OEM CD changer and it states BMW on the top sliding door of the CD changer unit. I took a look at the Alpine web site and couldn't find anything on their CD changers and trouble shooting advise. can you provide me with a link or any kind???
TIA.

Hi Robert,

Mine got stuck a few weeks ago -- steadily tapping on the cartridge with my fingers and pushing the eject button I got it to eject.

Okay........................
So much for the tapping and light banging approach.
I tried it for the past 30 minutes and nothing........
Its still stuck! I know for a fact that my wife NEVER plays with the CD changer and seldomly plays CDs, so the unit isn't even used a lot. What gives???
Can anyone please help me dislodge the CD magazine without screwing up the entire unit?
Thank you. :crying2:

Most likely a CD is jammed or partially loaded. All the suggestions given are good ones - you want to get the mechanism to successfully reload the CD so the magazine can be ejected.
Yes, I had one of my CD's jam half way into the magazine recently. This prevents the magazine from being ejected. I took the car to the dealer who replaced the whole unit under warranty. It is made in Japan by Alpine.

Robert,

There's two crosshead screws on the farside of the unit, losen these, and then slide the unit up and sideways.. disconnect the cables. wait 2 mins, and then plug the cables back in. It should then power cycle up, and hopefully eject the cd magazine.

Not looked closely enough, but is there a small hole you can put a 1mm paperclip in to force the magazine to eject? (normal feature on std 5 1/4 cd drives.

hope this helps.

if you have not fixed it yet.....try taking a baseball bat to it! You could take it to Circuit city or some audio place.... they might be able to make it work. They see these CD changers all the time.
