To confirm, it would work with anyone's tune, it doesn't have to be stock or and Evolve tune?
I cannot confirm that at this point.

Testing continues and finalised details will be set by Evolve upon release.

I'm just working on production set up now and wanted to gauge how many I should plan to make in the next 12 months for Evolve.

The Aim is indeed to be a cost effective (Vs BMW) replacement for SMG failure.

The reality is if BMW had released the CSL E60 with DCT... They could never have justified the F10 M5 as being better.

From memory you need

E92 DCT TRANSMISSION + MOUNT
E92 FLYWHEEL + BOLTS
OIL LINES -HEAT EXCHANGER CIRCUIT
OIL LINES - COOLER CIRCUIT
LENGTHENED PROPSHAFT
DANCONTROLLER + LOOM

The crank grinding of the crankshaft is a nothing burger. Takes 5 mins and only removes 10% of the material (the chamfer) of a feature that is only used during manufacturing. Serves no purpose at all.

The car can be put back to SMG or Manual without any effect from this grinding operation. If you're old enough to remember the A Team you will think it's cool to do anyway!

It will be around 3k GBP I believe but I cannot be quoted.

25 years of tuning behind me. It's my opinion that standalone ECU is only better for race cars.
That seems like an entirely reasonable price for a module that works in an OE way - I even liked the screenshot of ISTA showing the DKG there so you've clearly got your module bridging the DKG module onto the KCAN network for the diagnostics to work - that shows a nice bit of professionalism in terms of making it truly OE+.

I also like that you mention that the oil cooler and heat exchange is properly plumbed in, again, as it should be.

I'd be all over this but US$4k for the controller alone is about the same (prob even more) I'd spend on parts for a manual swap altogether. Not apples to apples (yet).
yeah, but the manual is a rubbery baulky fairly rubbish (typical BMW Getrag) gearbox, with a bad set of ratios; I’d much rather an SMG over the manual, tbh, so the DCT is a better option.

And I agree again (wait for @Fiftytwoeighty to chime in lol). I think both manual and dct really need a final ratio update to shine tho, no?

All I'm saying is too rich for my blood. There will be some early takers I'm sure.

I agree, all in with a $4k (plus tariffs?) module will make it not an easy sell in the US. BUT I don't think you are going to do an OE level 6MT swap for $4k in parts unless you get lucky and find a trans for cheap and even then maybe not.

Id bet for the average person buying the transmission and flywheel are the same (roughly) for either combination. Both need a different driveshaft. I'm not sure if there is an off the shelf crossmember for the DCT.

So at that point you need the oil cooler setup for the DCT and DANController whereas the MT still needs all the hydraulics, clutch, shifter, trim, switches and wiring. *Some of the MT trim/switches are NLA aren't they?

The DCT will likely still be more expensive if DIYing the install but maybe not if you are paying a shop to do it.

I know a lot of people will be interested in DCT from SMG (especially if their SMG craps itself) hopefully once shop(s) get a chance to do one and really know the particulars the price would be the same (fingers crossed for less) for a manual + 3.91 swap. You being a few hours away from Houston I'm excited if you end up being the shop that specializes in these!

Comparison Of SMG Vs DCT in D4
Same road
E60 SMG has centre box replaced with straight pipes
E63 DCT has Evolve Carbon Plenums

This is where the biggest real world benefit is in my opinion 👍
Very impressive!

have you guys changed any parameters in the DME tune? The MSS60 still references many of the SMG tables to control the DCT, and there are differences between over the MSS65.

Side note; I appreciate the need to make a profit, but £3k is too much IMHO. I would rather develop it myself for that cost.

I am indeed. it's been a hard road and I have the upmost respect for anyone that has tried to do it. I feel the pain!

The main reason it's not been easy or straightforward is that the E60 SMG CAN .dbc file has never been leaked online.

This means 50% of information required is unknown and has to be decrypted and understood.

End result is an SMG replacement controller and loom. Plugs straight into original loom and to DCT.

This is a PlugNplay device which requires no setup, no software and no calibration. It only translates information so ECU and DCT characteristics are determined by whatever flash you run (or OEM calibration)

So far tested on M6 with original E63 final drive.
Tested on
OEM DCT calibration
Gts calibration
Gts calibration+final drive ratio mod

It will be fitted to an E60 M5 with E92 final drive within the next 10 days.

After that customer testing and any tweaks required Evolve will be releasing the kit to anyone that wants it.

Out of interest how many here would be in. I can confirm it will be a huge saving over Syvecs ECU cost and all OEM features are retained.
I am here for it. I am in California so the solution needs to work without throwing any codes to avoid smog issues.

Here's the final pre-production model next to the original SMG unit that it replaces

And here is it being installed.

That's all that is required on the wiring side. Remove the SMG loom with the SMG transmission.
Install supplied loom to DCT transmission.
Connect to EVOLVE DANcontroller (1 plug)
Connect to E60 chassis loom (1 plug)

👍

I'm glad you asked 😊

There is no adjustment or settings in the DANcontroller.

There is no software or setup.

There is no Comms or plug to connect to it.

This device is literally PlugNplay.

Any faults with the inputs or outputs on the car will come up as a transmission fault on the Dash and thru diagnostics as per a standard vehicle.

Shift points, clamping of clutches etc are all adjustable through the DCT programming tools available.

Fyi DANcontroller stands for Digital Analogue Network Controller. Fundamentally it is converting digital and analogue signals into CAN, operating outputs along with translating & encrypting BMW messages across 3 CAN bus.
