Interior Fan Running & Dead Batteries, Oh My!

Last week I noticed the interior fan running at wild & various speeds after the car had been shut off - figured it was a courtesy/ventilation/computer cool-off thing and not paid much attention (It's been rather warm here recently). A few days later I'm stranded w/ a dead battery. The battery was 11 mos. old and was cratered and was warrantied by BMW. Swapped out battery - car ran like a raped ape. Three days later after much driving - dead again. Alternator shows weak - only 12.32v during idle. Rebuilding alternator today - after battery was COMPLETELY drained overnight. Any thoughts, ideas, suggestions, comments, input, illustrations, technical wizardry, hyperbole, ranting, words of comfort and solace and/or your grandma's favorite pie recipes would be appreciated.

Check your fan relays as well...

I had the resistor go but for me- the fan just didn't work. My brother had his fan just go on and on and on one day he got to work. He took key oout, door locks activated, did his daily grime- Dead battery afterwards.
