How Often do you feed your leather?

Well, I tried searching for this....maybe a thread like this exists and my searching skills are lacking..

So, today (once again) I was feeding my leather the Leather Conditioner..I was wondering how often do you clean, condition your leather? My car has recently become my daily driver and I feel as though Im feeding it (a lot!) more. The car is currently still parked in a garage but soon will be sitting outside(!!!) And, I'm concerned If im feeding it this much sitting inside a garage it will be needing it almost every week sitting outside!

So I'm curious how often do you feed your leather? And if your car sits outside or not how often you care for the leather?

Thanks,
Adam

I do it properly twice a year; the car lives in a garage when it isn't being used, but has over 200k miles so has seen its fair share of action. I'm sure that there are others who do it even more properly than me, but what I do is:

Step 1) Leather Cleaner - I use Autoglym but I believe that Lexol is very good.

Step 2) Leather Soffener - I use a product called Effax Ledersoft and leave it to soak in for a day or two. Makes the leather feel lovely.

Step 3) Leather Conditioner - many available.

After those steps, the interior feels great and it doesn't really take that much time. For cleaning in between, I use a chamois leather and clean warm water.

Mine's been sitting outside 24/7 since I bought it about 18 months ago, but I only do a complete leather conditioning (front & rear seats, door panels and console (no full leather dash for me) every 6 months whether it looks like it needs it or not. I rarely let any passengers in it, and if I do, it's never more than one person riding shotgun...noone has sat in the backseat since I bought it. That said, the only area regularly conditioned is the driver seat (once a week) b/c it's a daily driver.

I use Einzett Ledderfledge: Leather Cleaner & Conditioner by the way; removes light scuffs and dirt while leaving the leather with a like-new satin finish. Great stuff.

Although I have used and LOVED Leatherique, loved the results etc, I am still confused and unsure how the oils are "fed" to the leather by usingthe cleaner AFTER applying the oil. That said, my leather is softer and newer than before so thats all i care

I too use Leatherique for the M5 and Jag that I own. The stuff is simply amazing...albeit expensive. The oil is put on first to rejuvenate the leather while also raising dirt, body oil, other contaminants to the surface. The cleaner then removes those unwanted items. That is why it is put on second.

Every where you look on this forum and other forums leatherique gets rave reviews... Put my order in today to go on my new addition! I am definitely excited to see this stuff work its magic.

Leatherique for me, too. Shooting for twice a year. It's about that time, actually...

Twice a year at a minimum using Leatherique. My new M5 has the full leather option so I may do the dash areas more often.

Anyone know what chain stores might carry Leatherique products? I'm in Redmond WA, but figure some national auto parts store might carry it?

I'm heading to my first concours on Sunday and want to make an effort to prepare my interior.

Thanks.

Leatherique isn't sold over-the-counter.

I've always heard nothing but positive reviews from people who use Leatherique, but I bought some and used it on my E46 M3 cabrio once. I must say I wasn't terribly impressed. Maybe I was expecting too much. Wasn't a big fan of the whiskey sent either :dunno:

Well, I need something over the counter that would work. I tried the stuff from the dealer, but it didn't clean well I thought. I have the lighter brown interior and noticed that the thigh support is taking on some blue from my jeans.

Any ideas on something that might be a good alternative to clean this?

Thanks.

Cool that you entered! As of now only two E60's entered via web, maybe other mails in, but who uses the mail anymore?

In regards to detailing; we are very lucky to be in the area we are in as if you have not been to Griot's yet I hope you have time on Saturday! I highly suggest taking the drive Saturday morning! They will take your care in, show you how to use the products and they have some great cars on display including a 2002, BMWCCA discount and products that truly work! Not one of their products I have used have disappointed; just be prepared to drop some $$$! If you don't have the time Saturday they will be there on Sunday and you will get some complementary samples for entering. Either way you'll get to see how serious these guys are about detailing and well all my other chain store products are now in a bin for use on the other cars not worthy enough:D

Can someone post a couple shots before and after leather treatment? I've never been a detailing guy, DD all my cars, I want to know what I'm missing out.

I am going to make a trip to Groits, but can't this Saturday. I bought some Lexor products based on recommendations I read on a guy who's big into Concours prep with his Boxter. I am going to use it Saturday, unless someone tells me that would be a big mistake... Anyone?

I love track days, but geeze I was thinking how this is perfect for me. I get to be with my car all day Saturday and Sunday in the sunshine and do nothing but try to make it perfect. My wife thinks I'm having an affair. lovelove

I think I might be.
