How heavy is the S62 compared to the M62?

I've recently changed the struts and springs on my 540i for genuine , stock m5 units. Much improvement. However, I've noticed that the ride height at the front is slightly higher than my M5 with supposedly identical suspension. There is a noticeable gap between the top of the wheel and wheelarch. The ride height at the back is identical to the M5.

The only thing I can think of is that the spring rates for the M5 are different to suit the extra weight of the S62 compared to the M62.

Is the S62 heavier? Could there be another reason why the ride height is different?

Thanks

Matt

Darn. If that is the case I guess I could of just gotten some Bilstein direct replacement shocks & struts for the 540i instead of spending the dough I did. Oh well, I'm very happy with the purchase & like the heigh & firmness adjustability. Sorry, back on topic now...

Only a 40lb difference is much less then I though...

that's only engine weight. there are other components on the M5 to add weight.

the OP also didn't mention the year of their vehicle - vanos, non-vanos makes a difference, 2 mafs + whatever extra wiring the M5 has. are these weights for fully-dressed engines, or bare long blocks?

the earliest 96/97 540s were nearly 400lbs lighter than their end-model-run counterparts.

Agreed Matt, that would be more difficult to find I imagine, I just found a site that compared the two and felt that gave a reasonable comparison, I assumed they would be like for like, i.e. short engine or fully built etc.
