I have a feeling I'm going to feel stupid once I get the answer, but how are you supposed to know which fuse is #57 (telephone)? I want to unplug mine but there is only about 6 fuses in the rear trunk compartment (as in the photo of the original post) and they are not numbered/tagged...

OsinO, if you look at the last couple of pictures in SD's original guide, you can make out a green fuse with two red fuses below it. Fuse 57 is the upper of those two red fuses. You should have the label from the last photo in the inside of the boot panel that folds down which takes a little working out as not all fuses detailed on the label are fitted.

got the same bosch battery...fitted it....went dead after a few weeks...looked like a faulty battery..got another one...put it in seems to be ok...i always leave it on a battery conditioner now and is ok....mine has phone and traffic master too.

I see so the telephone fuse is the red one between the green and the other red beside it..

It wasn't in the fuse rack, it was on it's own below it, it's one of those inline fuses. Which is what made me think it was a retro-fit job. Especially as I think there is already a nominated slot in the fuse holder rack for the towbar fuse which presumably where it would be if it were factory-fit.

mmmm, I had a tow-bar on mine that I removed, fitted by the previous owner by a dealer.

poor job, they ran cables from front to back instead of using the wiring set up in the boot so I figured current drain could be a feature.

I slow charge mine a couple of times a week anyway but I'd feel better not having to worry, had one battery go flat after a 4 week trip away.

Well looks like this is what I will be doing over the coming weekend. Tried doing it with a mate over the last few nights but keep running out of time.

My car had the traffic master which we disconected and removed a long time ago inculding the fuse in the boot.

I've already replaced both the front FSU and the rear console one with new items they were done 6 months or so ago.

Car had a new battery 6 months ago and has been fine ( I don't use it all the time ).

Then all of a sudden dead battery, after checking it I have a 1.34 draw even when car is asleep.

Have tried removing the FSU's with no differene in reading, have tried disconecting the rear consloe altogether again no difference, have disconected the phone altogether (bit under arm rest and bit in the boot) again no difference.

I've been told heard that it could be the GM Module, could be the LCM, could be a door module.

Reading this I think I will try the fuse's mentioned for the Nav set up and the CD. Does any one else have any ideas that could help me put my finger straight on it ?

Also at some stage my car was fitted with a tow bar so I will see if I can find any remaining / left over wires.

My problem turned out to be a loose ground strap off the battery. The strap going from the battery to the chassis was very very loose on the chassis side. The nut was backed off a good bit, and had a much better grab than finger tight. It was probably like that for quite a while.

Well sadly mine was not as easy as an earth strap :(

But

I think I have narrowed it down to the radio module other wise known as the BM54.

If I do the test (disconnect the earth on the battery and put an Amp meter in line and send the car to sleep) I get a 0.47 amp drain.

I then removed fuse 4 which is interior light circuit it dropped to 0.10 amps. And then started pulling the rest 1 at a time

I then got to fuse 43 which is radio and phone (Phone has already been taken out) and it dropped to 0.03 amp (30 Milliamps).

I then put Fuse 4 back in and let the car go to sleep again after 20mins I still at 0.03 amps.

Put fuse 43 back in and it jumped back to 0.47 amp. Disconnected the BM54 and down it goes to 0.03amps ................. must be the BM54 ?????

Havn't tried leaving it over night as yet as the car does not live with me.

But when I pulled fuse 43 the drain did go away accroding to my amp meter. From what I can tell the Phone if you have one, the radio and the monitor all go to fuse 43 as well as 44 and 45 I think.

In my case it was 43 that seemed to give me the drop and as my Phone is already un hooked completly I tried unpluging the BM54 and the drain stayed at an acceptable 0.03.

Try disconecting it on yours (its in the boot between the light and the sat nav, one easy plug) and see what happens.

Hi there

No fuse 43 is in the fuse pannel located in the glove box its the 3rd from last one. The BM54 unit is the module you mention thou with its own little fuse under the wiring block.

seems as the loose ground was only part of my problem.. after a few days of sitting the car is dead again. I could hear a fan, presumably the HVAC fan, turning on every once in a while, as the car was sitting in the garage (parked and shut off). Sounds like it's time for a new FSU?

been monitoring mine, amps stay in the 10-20 mAH range (0.001-0.002) with occasional spikes as high as 890mAH (been using the min/max function on my fluke for this...)

The battery hasn't left me stranded yet, but it does drain pretty quickly. Had it on the charger up to 100%, took it off the charger for 2 days and the battery was at 60%...

I'm thinking it's the FSU, but can't seem to get any hard data for this... The average draw is still 10mAH.

I'm going to leave it the meter on it overnight and see what I get...

I'd say it sounds like it could be the FSU worth changing if you have never done it before think they are about £70 at the dealer but I certainly wouldn't put a euro parts one in as they are so prone to failing.

Ideally the car should be (this is my understanding) between 0.003 (30) and 0.005 (50) mine also changes between the two and spikes to 60 some times. The FSU has gone altoger you should be able to unplug it and see the drain go back to normal or unplug it for a few days and see how the battery lasts.

BTW, having recently change out my FSU, it was only $59 from Pelican Parts - Final Stage Unit for Front Blower (for cars with Automatic A/C), M5 (2000-03) Sedan Manual Transmission, with S62 Engine (E39), Brand: O.E.M.

Yeah, poor form to just throw a part at a problem, but the issue I had - erratic A/C blower speed - is gone. I didn't want to wait to see if it ultimately affected my battery's charge and I figured if I was going to spend the time to mess with the FSU, I may as well replace it.

Fuse #56 NAVI

Thanks for help.

Welcome to the Board.

Fuse 57 is in the trunk. See the picture in the first post.
Most people can tell they need a new FSU if the air conditioning fan acts strangely.
Hi,
Thanks for the fast answer.
I know that is in the trunk bath which one?
I know that the 56 is the red one below the yellow. (there two red and one yellow on the top of them)
Is the 57 red one or the yellow on?
And one more thing if you know.
Will I turn off OBC if I unplug 57 or just NAVI?
Thanks
