But I'll say that driving the one in the S3, it has a really good feel and grabs like crazy. Still very streetable, it's not an on/off switch. Could you find something similar for a lot less? Probably so...

 

Get an OS Giken if you're gonna drop 2 grand on a clutch.

 

What is it that you are looking for in a clutch? Southbend has some great Stage 3 setups that will work well for less cost.

 

I was looking at the Southbnd clutches. I wanted to get the lightend flywheel and was not sure if their clutch setup would work well with it. My 2003 540i M sport had the Dinan clutch kit and lightened flywheeel and was perfect in that car. So I was curious as to what makes the Dinan clutch kit even worth the price? My M5 has headers, Tune, Dinan diff and Intake. I would like to thee clutch to be stronger than the OEM one but still very streetable for DD or if my wife decides to drive it she does not have to work at it to make the gear.

I just installed a Southbend stage 4 feramic with a new OE flywheel. Pedal feel is springier (like most aftermarket clutches), but it drives like stock, if not easier due to the increased mass of the feramic disk.

 

So I am thinking a Southbend stage II daily or Endurance and the lightend OEM flywheel. Are pressure plates of the Southbend daily and enduranced increased over stock Self Adjusting Units or is it just the clutch that allows for the increase in grip?

 

Those kits might actually include a stock pressure plate, but call Southbend and speak to John. He was very helpful when I was deciding on my clutch.

The pressure plate that came with my kit resulted in a pedal effort that I'd say is 1.5X stock. When I drove the car the first time after the install, I was surprised at how non-brutal it was for a clutch that can hold 750 ft/lbs.

 

From what I understand, the DINAN clutch kit is an OEM disc with lightened flywheel.

You can get a lightened flywheel from Jed or some other sources, and mate them with a SouthBend clutch and pressure plate and be very happy with it. Pedal effort is stock like and easy to engage.

 

If you are not pushing serious power, HD clutch is pointless.

 

I'm running a "JED" lightened stock flywheel with a stock LUK clutch/PP. Everything feels like stock except for the effects that the flywheel gives... revs up and down faster. My car is similarly set up. I have headers, tune and 3.45 diff. I really like the clutch set up and is fine at this power level for DD action. If I was doing frequent track days and other hard driving all the time, I would want something beefier.
