My car has 95k miles and i noticed that is shifting rough sounds like a clunking noise between gears.
Is weird cause it doesn't do it all the time and none of the lights go on.. I also notice that while im at a traffic light it wont go in to gear right away.. Could it be the clutch or the smg unit?

this only happened once but when I pressed the gas nothing happened. I put my car in N then back into D and it worked fine. any thoughts?

Just once...no codes and no repeat. Could have been one of those random BMW electrical grimlins that pop up every now and then. I would not loose any sleep over it until it does it again. I once got the red cog of death after sitting for 20 mins listening to the radio. As soon as I turned the ignition on the red cog showed up, car started and drove fine. Has never had the red rog again.

The M5 does some crazy things some times...just part of its character.

I just bought my 06' M5 with 45K miles on it. I too think i have a "clunker". I didnt think much of it when test driving as it was the first time i had ever taken a ride in a SMG. It does it noticeably under light acceleration. when i am heavy on the gas it less of a thud. Question for the original owners...when you bought the M5 brand new did it have clunking noises or thuds when changing gears?

your fine buddy its the clutch just make sure while your in there you lube everything up. as for the the tranny being loud or "clunky" yeah it does tend to do that when you dont switch gears properly i always let off the gas a bit when switching gears so that the change goes thru smoothly but if your already doing that you may need to reset the clutch or maybe even get a new clutch. my car when its downshifts to first sometimes it makes a "clunking" sound and my tranny has about 7k on it at the moment.

so i had the tranny pulled out and my buddy found a few screws dancing around in the bell housing and noticed that they were from the pressure plate.

the dual mass flywheel had a lot of play and some of the teeth were damage from the screws dancing around. believe it or not the clutch disk was in decent shape and has quiet a bit of life to it.. i'm replace the entire clutch assembly with a after market one.

thanks for the help guys ill try and get some pics..
