Hello,

Can anyone recommend a good independant or mobile mechanic in the area of Washington, D.C.? I appreciate any suggestions!

Benchmark Motors in Columbia, MD. Not that close to D.C. and prices are a bit high for some things, but they specialize in BMW/MB. I paid $300 for an full exhaust installation (I think that's a bit high). On the other hand, they charge $120 for an alignment versus $190 at the dealers. The guys there are very nice people.

Thank you, the friendly part is very important to me. I have found it to be pretty rare in this area. Would you happen to know how much they charge per hour for basic labor?

No, I don't know offhand what they charge but it's less than the dealer!

Thanks for the reference, but looks like he's pretty far from me, and I use and abuse my mechanic a lot and am on a pretty tight schedule so a 50 min drive one way wouldn't work for me...

Thanks, I am looking into getting quotes on a few key parts of the car armored and looks like they do that.

My search is finally over!

I have found an awesome mechanic everybody! He is everything I was looking for in an independant technician: friendly, knowledgeable, experienced, flexible, honest work ethic and honest prices and I found him! He is ASE certified, located about 5 minutes north of the Washington-Dulles Airport, I took my car to him to do an intake CPS and fog light HID conversion kit and expected it to be a while...he did the cps in 20 minutes!!! and the HID in about 30 with no directions and having never done one before. Wow, I was so impressed with everything about this guy I just wanted to share with all of you. He has a garage full of Snap-On Tools, and even does fliud exchanges and bodywork. Anything he doesn't do he has associate-friends that can do like painting and lift-work and will do it for a reasonable price and he vouches for the quality of their work if he doesn't do it himself. Here's his info if anybody want's to get in touch with him, he works on all makes and models:

Phil 703-357-5721
517 West Maple Ave
Sterling, VA 20164

Best part is his price, only $42.50 an hour and if he works only 15 minutes he will charge you for exactly 15 minutes, no overcharging, no BS. I was there for an hour and 15 minutes but couldn't help but leave him a tip because I felt so lucky to finally find such a decent honest tech after months of searching...if you need anything done and warranty doesn't cover it I would really recommend Phil.

Thanks for everybody's input!

Has anyone had any experience with Lucas Performance in Jessup, MD? This place was recommended by a friend with an E46 M3.
