It is a well known car and driver on M3Forum.net. I had been looking for a solid E46 chassis with a great rollcage. This one was done by Fall Line Motosports in Chicago and is tied into the subframe connection points and the front strut towers. The chassis also has been seamwelded and reinforced in all the requisite places. Moreover, it started its life as a track car as a 2005 ZHP with 25k on the clock. All of the foregoing makes the car a perfect candidate for an S62 swap, which is what I have always wanted. Equally important, the car is nearly in arrive and drive condition, meaning I can track and even race it until the M5 is done. Then I will track and perhaps even race the M5 while the S62 swap is underway. Ultimately, having both the M5 and the M3 in raceable condition with S62s was the long-term plan. This is a big step towards that goal.

If you plan on going with the same oil system in the e46 chassis as you have on the e39, you will save yourself a lot of headache. There are couple other things one should know who is getting into this swap.

Front Subframe - you can reuse the e46 subframe, but will need to go with a dry sump

Headers - You will need custom headers. This can be done

Clutch work - the engine needs to be lowered do replace the clutch

Plus all other things that are considered when swapping engines.

Let me know when you are ready and ill get you all the contact information.

Thanks. I have been researching this swap for a couple of years and recently helped at least two others do it for their race cars. I will of course use the Dailey dry sump system. I also intend to use all of the experience and expertise I have gleaned from my Motec M190 ECU, dash and PDM installation to run a virtually identical system on the E46.

Motor mounts are my current puzzle. Any advice or guidance you have on those would be greatly appreciated. I am leaning towards asking Bob Kearns to manufacture some custom solid mounts out of 7075 aluminum.

I'd be very very interested in some pics regarding the front bumper and front splitter.

Me and a mate are running an e46 330i at the moment as a track toy and want to put a front splitter on as well as making the bumper quick release. All ideas welcome, so if you have any pics, that would be great!!
Thanks, Jamie. Splitter on this car is a Fall Line Motorsports design, coupled with a Bimmerworld standoff.

Congratulations to the both of you. So, when the s62 swap is done will you and Sam be competing against one another? If so, who gets the M5?

Congrats! Looks like the racing bug truly has bitten. Would an S62 swap not bump you out of GTS4 class? I imagine everything else is built to the GTS4 spec, it's literally a turn key for w2w racing.

I will be buried in my M5, so it will always be mine. Sam and I will share the M3, but Sam has his own M5 which, when Jed finishes his headers, will be a full blown Dinan S2 with Schrick cams (minus the differential).

True, the S62 puts the M3 into GTS5, where it will require some serious steps to make it fully competitive. But it will be. We may squeeze in a season of GTS4 WTW before the swap. Hitting VIR tomorrow and Thursday! Woohooo!
