13-41-7-830-580 alternate source - brass??

10-15 bucks for a 13-41-7-830-580 aka the infamous fuel breather valve connector.....seems like a rip-off for plastic. Can't help to think a brass fitting might make more sense.

Has anyone else sourced an alternative part besides the weak plastic
