They are the same. Go to realoem.com and you can see the part numbers.

For what it's worth, I threw out my e60 shifter in my e39 m5 and e60 m5 and installed the shifter from the 1.9L z3. I also have the same 1.9L z3 in my e28 m5. The e60 shifter felt sloppy compared to the 1.9L z3.

Two things to keep in mind:

1). There are 2 z3 shifters. The one that fits/pre-bent/correct height is the 1.9L. The other one is too short and awkward.

2). Long before the e60 shifter came about, the z3 shifter was the "go-to" replacement for the e28 m5, e34 m5, and e39 crowd.

And the Dinan shifter for the e39...is rebranded black e60 shifter.

Is the part number for the correct Z3 shifter 25117527252?

Anyone have pictures of the Z3 shifter installed for height? The nice thing about these OEM shifters is they're cheap, so you can try 1 or both and pick what you like without a large investment.

@TheSt|G, I know it's over a year ago, but you don't still happen to have this (for sale), do you? (Sorry, can't PM yet)

The DSSR, firms up the left/right wiggle you get from the stock shifter. Put the car in any gear, and wiggle the knob, you feel a lot of play in all directions. With the DSSR, this is eliminated.

There are pluses and minuses to the setup though (install time being one of them, getting that clip off the carrier is a pain in the rear lol) . Nice tight feel throughout the gears though.
