BMW is cranking up production of its i8 plug-in hybrid to meet global demand.
The brand’s plant in Leipzig, Germany, is now producing 20 cars a day rather than the previous 10. The increase in production should help to get the cars in customer’s hands quicker, as there is currently a four month wait for the i8.

BMW sold a total of 18,000 i8 and i3 vehicles last year, about one third of which came to the United States. Out of that number, 555 i8s were sold in the U.S., which only went on sale here in August. For 2015, BMW has already moved 198 i8s through February in the U.S., putting the brand on track to top 1,000 units sold this year.
