As a long time forum member, I still support the prohibition 100% with zero reservations. I'd guess the only discussion to be had concerns the time limit, maybe specific forums.

Exactly. The only forums that needs to ditch the 24hr edit rule are the DIY and Sales forums.

Now.. to avoid such feature in Sales forums to be used for nefarious reasons.... The feature itself should be only accessible to already established forum members, e.g according to their post count, or sales feedback.

I wonder though...does either or at least any of the site administrators even read this?

Still say leave it as is. Can't think of any good reason why you might need to regularly edit your post after 24 hours. The times I had to, it was a quite easy thing to ask a moderator to make the change. Sometimes it was a worthwhile change and they obliged and sometimes they politely refused because it really wasn't. Seems pretty basic and easy to me.

A great reason would be For Sale threads. It's confusing for buyers and frustrating for sellers when prices and availability isn't immediately apparent in the first post. Also, with the whole Photobucket ordeal, a lot of DIY and journal threads can't be fixed without moderator intervention, and I doubt that they want to spend the time updating photo links for multiple users. Other than those two examples, I'd tend to agree with you.

Yeah this needs to go on the FS forum - it's idiotic, even replying SOLD will result in the thread popping to the top.

Likely it is because of SEO and how the content is logged by the SEO bots, its not the best for SEO if the content can be removed/edited. Everything here is content that needs to be optimized for the search engines for revenue/monetization purposes. If people cannot edit old posts, then they have to generate new posts, new content, but this is secondary to the SEO logging reason. This was how it was explained to me by the developer of XenForo, another forum software, in short form.

I agree that there is a clear issue with how this works with the Classified forums but otherwise its still massively more user friendly than that facebook or instagram trash.

Note, I do not speak for the admins/owners of m5board.com, just my thoughts as a long time moderator here and admin of another website.
