Milton- Great looking addition! I was considering a Blue i8 my dealer had in the Spring, but I opted to make the F-car dream a reality and picked up an 08 F430. It makes a great garage mate for the convertible M6. I'd love to hear your impression of the i8 after some more miles under your belt. How's the transition between driving the i8 and M6?
I would love to see pics of the F430...kindly post a few in this thread!
The i8 is a completely different drive. I have about 10k miles on it thus far after a couple of long trips and could not be more pleased. As you know, the mid-engine makes rotating the car SOOOOO easy. The car is comfortable once you are inside and covering hundreds of miles per day is not a problem. I did New Orleans to Nashville with no problems whatsoever.
Performance is a mixed bag. 0-70/80 mph or so, is amazing! The car just goes with no drama, whatsoever. It is shocking. The torque from the electric motors is immediate with the ICE taking over after that. With 360 HP, the high-speed acceleration is lacking compared to the S85 equipped cars but more than adequate for most circumstances.
The chassis is incredibly stiff and provides a great platform for high-performance driving. The only weak points are the low rolling resistance tires. They truly limit the car's capabilities. Once they are burned off, I will get a proper set of tires...Pilot Super Sports or PZero Corsa System. Brakes are impressive and the regen does of lot of the light work with the actual brakes kicking in for the heavy lifting. They are fade free. Very impressive.
As previously stated, the car is easy to drive. In fact, the first time I drove the M6 after about a week in the i8, I almost threw it off the road in a high speed sweeper. My M6, as set up, is not overly forgiving and reminded me that it is not to be trifled with!
The i8 makes everyone smile wherever I go. The attention that it garners is amazing. The only negative experience that I have is sometimes people literally run into me looking at the car or taking pictures. Seriously. This happens a lot. A good friend calls it, 'an attractive nuisance'.
I have loved every moment driving the vehicle and always look forward to the next drive.
It's great to hear from you!
Don't forget to post some pics of the F430!!
