Milton- Great looking addition! I was considering a Blue i8 my dealer had in the Spring, but I opted to make the F-car dream a reality and picked up an 08 F430. It makes a great garage mate for the convertible M6. I'd love to hear your impression of the i8 after some more miles under your belt. How's the transition between driving the i8 and M6?

Congrats again!

Mike

Thanks Mike!

I would love to see pics of the F430...kindly post a few in this thread!

The i8 is a completely different drive. I have about 10k miles on it thus far after a couple of long trips and could not be more pleased. As you know, the mid-engine makes rotating the car SOOOOO easy. The car is comfortable once you are inside and covering hundreds of miles per day is not a problem. I did New Orleans to Nashville with no problems whatsoever.

Performance is a mixed bag. 0-70/80 mph or so, is amazing! The car just goes with no drama, whatsoever. It is shocking. The torque from the electric motors is immediate with the ICE taking over after that. With 360 HP, the high-speed acceleration is lacking compared to the S85 equipped cars but more than adequate for most circumstances.

The chassis is incredibly stiff and provides a great platform for high-performance driving. The only weak points are the low rolling resistance tires. They truly limit the car's capabilities. Once they are burned off, I will get a proper set of tires...Pilot Super Sports or PZero Corsa System. Brakes are impressive and the regen does of lot of the light work with the actual brakes kicking in for the heavy lifting. They are fade free. Very impressive.

As previously stated, the car is easy to drive. In fact, the first time I drove the M6 after about a week in the i8, I almost threw it off the road in a high speed sweeper. My M6, as set up, is not overly forgiving and reminded me that it is not to be trifled with!

The i8 makes everyone smile wherever I go. The attention that it garners is amazing. The only negative experience that I have is sometimes people literally run into me looking at the car or taking pictures. Seriously. This happens a lot. A good friend calls it, 'an attractive nuisance'.

I have loved every moment driving the vehicle and always look forward to the next drive.

It's great to hear from you!
Don't forget to post some pics of the F430!!

Cheers-Milton

Thanks for your thoughts! The i8 my local dealer had sold pretty quick so I didn't get a chance to drive it. I was amazed they were selling the car at MSRP without a markup. This is the same time most dealers were adding $10k+ to sticker or some were offered online for over $200k. I think the car looks spectacular and as you know first hand, the technology really is impressive. Has the high door sills from the tub given you any grief yet? Getting in and out of it was a bit dubious for me- maybe with practice it would have been easier. The 430 is sometimes a challenge to get out of because it sits so low- if it had a high sill, you'd never get out! haha
I completely understand the attention that it brings when you drive it- the 430 is the same. I can't take it out without everyone taking pics and video. Most people are nice about it. Last weekend I was at the park taking pics and a guy came up and just said- "hey, can you open the back so I can take a picture of the engine?" Not a hello or anything. jeez! Enjoy! Here's a few pics of the 430...

Cheers!

Mike, it looks great! The exterior color is fantastic.

I know what you mean about the door sills. They are a real challenge at best and since I need bilateral hip replacement surgery, it is that much worse. The things we do for our passions!!

I know what you mean about the attention. As you say, most people are really nice but there are some that are really clueless. My only request is that they let me get out of the pic.

Thanks for the pics!!

Cheers-Milton

Hey Milton!

What the heck!!

I guess I have been off the board too long.

Congratulations. Now I have a reason to travel back to New Orleans area and take a side trip to visit you (lol!). May be easier to do a test drive with you than the dealers.

Love the color choice and appreciate your posted experiences.

Congrats with your Daughter's graduation. Where to College?

You busy, take care of the body.

If in LA, look me up!

Take care.

Mike

Milton,
It was nice meeting you. Your I8 is beautiful. I agree with you.. Do not let go of the M6. I was very disappointed when BMW stop using the V10. I had an '06 M5 and loved the sound. How was the Chicken Tortilla Soup?
