Smg shifts

Hey guys I attached a video of my smg shifting from 1-2-3. When the car is cold a lot of times I will get a short blink between gears. I noticed tonight that I got it between 2 and 3 on shift speed3. at higher RPMs there is not a blink, also have not noticed it after 3rd gear. I tried to look through the old posts and I couldn’t find a straight up answer. I should add that I have done the reset on the SMG twice, and I also believe I have a euro flash. Any thoughts from guys with smg experience would be great. Thanks in advance.

I think your guess is correct. Got same symptoms before smg and transmission overhaul. Also got a little "screec" noise when shifting 2 to 3 gear. Original TO-bearing was weared pretty bad. Definitely it was sticking...

So I’ve read through this thread, but I can’t seem to ever find how much a total job like this is? Also from what I read in the thread, is Jim talking about just a clutch replacement job? I am confused because there is some smg pump talk in there too (I’m a noob guys). All I know is my car is running great at the moment, I get a slightly clunky gear shift every now and then and a quick blink between shifts only when cold or a if im shifting at a low RMP, but other than that I feel like the tranny is pretty solid for 93k miles. I do want to be prepared and have funds for any smg problems ahead though. Thanks guys.

I did all what flacoramos listed and added some extra new smg electric motor, smg accumulator, transmission mounts and hydraulic pump internal seals. Those extra parts costs around 1000€. Total for parts were approx. 3300€.

List is both. Saves you money in the long run... If just want to do clutch get flywheel, clutch kit, bearing fork, ball pivot, fork spring clip, guide bushing, rear main seal, transmission seal and check gear position sensor wire harness.

So I shouldn’t wait for the clutch to go out? I just dropped 3200 on RBs engine mounts and vanos line do I’m not trying to drop another 3k for a while lol. Havnt had for the car for 3 months yet. Think I can enjoy it for awhile then worry about this? By next summer I would be ok with doing this

Just enjoy the car now. I didn't also planned to do the smg and transmission overhaul this year but i started to get the noise when shifting from gear 2 to 3. That was the reason. Guess what, two months after the tranny throttle actuator failed?

Up to you if you can afford a break down. While RBs will cause further engine damage (good call on getting them done btw, hope you used increased clearance ones) a smg/clutch related failure will leave you stranded and nothing more. You can wait until something breaks down and if a trans pull is required then tackle all the items above.

What’s the other option Flaco? Replace everything now so I don’t have to worry about being stranded? I only drive the car 2-3 times a week if that, i only bought this beast because I have 2 other cars, so I don’t daily it, even though I’d love to. And thank you, I did go with the BE bearings thanks to the forum. I barely put 200 miles on the car before doing the job. Got it done first thing.

Yeah that's pretty much what I did. IMO with these cars preventative maintenance is key if you want reliability. Mine is my daily driver and over time I've done everything (I think?) that's documented in this forum. Think about it it's great that at this point all issues are known and documented.

I did get stranded last fall/winter due to a failing smg pump motor. It gave me plenty of warnings over the last 2 years which allowed me to gather all parts when it finally quit. To be honest I was waiting for it to quit and it's what I got.

For sure, since I just bought the car, don’t daily it, and I just dropped 3k+ into it I’m going to enjoy it for the rest of the summer and start planning for that over the winter, as well as pray it will be ok until then. I was planning on doing the FAMS tune from jcolley next though, would you advise against that given the information I’ve given you guys?
