Unhappy Big problem!

Well apparently I had a valve spring failure on my '08 M5 with 87k. Exhaust valve spring failed caused the valve to hit the piston, bend and a piece of the valve broke off and welded itself between the intake valve and valve seat. Pictures coming soon. Now we'll see how my exclusionary warranty handles this repair. Thing that sux the most is I was just driving home from work when it went into limp home mode, luckily my Indy is on the way home. I have the USAA (underwritten by Asurion) exclusionary warranty, on my second renewal. The first renewal they replaced my SMG with no issues so I'm hoping for the best.

I bought it in 2015 from another board member with 55k. I was the third owner. Board member (2nd owner) had it less than a year. Bearings have not been done, but planned on doing them this year although my oil consumption is very low and I change the oil about every 6k.

Waiting on the inspector from the warranty company to check it out, but at minimum I think a new head will be required.

Years ago I had a Ford Escort (circa late 80s) it dropped a valve and wound up on its edge in the top of a piston - hammered the head as one would expect. New piston, new head and $900 later the car ran again - a far cry from a V10.

Keen to see what insurance says. Any caps listed in your coverage? This is likely to be spendy.

I need to read the policy closer, but it was exclusionary and I don't remember any cap.

good luck

Man I just had those A holes turn me down for a turbo on my Ford F350 ( last year ) cause I had a dirty air filter ( and it wasn't that dirty ) , there was a small amount of dirt past the filter ( it had 80K on it so ya it wasn't like new past the filter in the tube entering the turbo ) . Anyway they said my filter caused turbo failure and denied the claim. their job is to find any reason to turn it down.. So I hope you have service records . cause if they can find a reason like you missed a oil change they will try to say that cause it. I will NEVER buy another extend warranty. Google it cause they are not really warranty's they are service contracts and you do not have the same protection under the law.

Damn that sucks. So valve springs is another big issue with the car besides the bearings?
