CCC Display Dead

So my 2006 E60 M5 CCC display died, blank screen, no radio, SOS & control knob spins freely. Checked all the fuses & they are good. Do I need to replace the CCC screen itself only? Is it that simple to swap with another one or more to it? Thx!

The swap is not that difficult 2 T10 Torx fasteners. Once the fasteners are removed, pull the top of the iDrive display out of the dashboard. If needed, gently lever it out using a plastic prying tool. Once the top is free, lift the bottom of the display out from the mounts and remove it far enough to access the electrical connectors.

Screens are not known to fail - other than the rare case. The CCC unit on the other hand is a likely culprit.

Thanks for the responses.....

Any way to test if the screen or the CCC unit is bad? Maybe easier just to buy a used set from member's here instead. If so, is it just a plug n play? Any re-coding necessary? Thx

Only sure way is to swap parts - sorry.

Coding may or may not be necessary. Depends on whether donor car features matches yours. There may be some options enabled on the donors unit and/or viceversa. Either way basic stuff should work.

Blank / default coding is rather easy if you have a copy of ncs and a $30 K/Dcan cable.

Another option of course is to upgrade to CIC if you don't feel like swaping parts.

Thx, I'd prefer minimal cost as possible, as this is my weekend car (don't drive it much). Mine is an '06 M5 (probably 1st generation CCC unit). I noticed others with '08 + has a different display? Mine doesn't have the numbers 1-6 radio face. Just has a CD & DVD slot (underneath the climate control knob).

So if anyone has a similar CCC setup that will work on my car, please pm me. Not looking to spend a whole lot....Thx

If you do need just the screen I have one that I'd sell. I'd also loan it out for testing it you want to cover shipping, but it does sound like you have more than a screen issue.
