Got my M running nice, but for the life of me I can’t seem to figure out how to get it to light up from a dead stop quick. You probably know how it goes, a Mustang or some other “sports” car comes up beside you and wants to try, but when I take off, they leave me till the rpms get up. I always pull ahead about the time I hit 2nd, but that lag is killing me.

I’m used to a 3 pedal with the ability to get the rpms up, but I’m sucking with this SMG tranny....any tips on improving my “show off ness” to get the car to light up or am I doomed to always play catch-up and just rely on the high revs to pull ahead.

I feel like I’m letting the M5/M6 community down every time it happens ☹☹☹

Remap it v10 suffers from very low power in low rpms

You're turning off DSC right...?! Also isnt there a launch mode for SMG? (I'm a 6speed so I'm unsure)
Man I wish it had a 3 pedal, I would fell like I knew what I was doing then. I just can’t get the feel for this SMG for some reason...it almost like it bogs down as the clutch engages or something. Maybe I need to do the clutch adaptation, but gotta do some more research I guess.

Very frustrating as I’m the only M6 in my area so I’m constantly tested. I feel like it must be my fault as the car pulls awesome once the rpms get up. Maybe the launch control is the answer and I just need to experiment a bit till I get good at it. Hopefully we won’t see me in a YouTube video getting beat off the line before I can get the hang of it, lol

I just wish there was another M in my area (middle TN) that drives the car as it should be that I could learn from or at least know how hard I could push it
Sell it and buy 6speed lol. No but I just think you need to adjust to SMG and get to really learn it.

I know exactly where you're coming from. I've always been 3 pedal until I got my M6. Euro launch mode is definitely where it's at if you want it to be easy. I honestly never had much issues with the US spec launch though. In my opinion it launches from a good rev range for that engine the issue is that you can't just mat it and hold on you actually have to work the throttle to get the tires to hook. Most e6x M owners don't have any experience with that. Their daily is usually some SUV and their racing experience ends at trying to be the first dad to soccer practice on a Saturday morning. Once you get good with getting in LC and working the throttle in to get hooked up you won't have any issues getting going.

Alternatively you can also double tap the throttle to get the car to dump the clutch out by effectively out pacing the clutch engagement sequence. But timing is much harder if you're trying to line up with someone. Really good for initiating a burnout though.

Of course there is one ultimate thing you have to remember. These cars were not built to be fast off the line. They are built to accelerate consistently to 200MPH. If you really want to eat some people up get them out on the highway. Our cars are rarely beat from 70 to 150MPH.

I have euro spec car and launch control is one way so a tune with euro lc is one answer. It gets a lot of wheel spin but still gets a good launch.

The other way is as follows:

Put it in m mode set to:
Dsc off (or try m dynamic if you like)
P500sport
S6

On the line when it's go time give the accelerator a quick stab, then really punch it to the floor as hard/fast as you can.

The first stab will bring the revs up a little and the second mash will really get it launching. Get ready to modulate the throttle in first (if you don't you'll just end up in an epic burnout till you hit the rev limiter), so modulate the throttle a little to tame the wheel spin, grab second when the wheelspin settles down and revs get up over 7,000. After second it's just hang on and shift between 7500-8000.

It works nicely for me. ?

Thanks for the tips ! ...sounds like I need to practice quite a bit more, but does sound like it may be doable at least. I may need to go to a private road and try it over and over till I get this nailed down.

I’ve had both smg tunes as most of you, it seems the USA spec 1800rpm is too little and I find the 4000+ Euro tune just roasts the tires. Competing against a modified e60 M5 euro smg tune at the drag races he used launch control every time and I pedaled the throttle on red9 on my sprint booster and beat him every time. Ideally a 3000rmp launch would work best perhaps...if only

Yeah a little practice will help. I probably wouldn't do heaps in a row as it definitely puts heat through the clutch if you do a bunch of hard launches.

Jciolley: yes from memory each press on the cruise control 'minus' button takes lc down 250 or 500 rpm. Can't remember which. Only works with euro lc though I think.

I can see how a sprint booster would help with launching the car. With the stock throttle mapping you really have to stab/kick/punch the accelerator. A normal 'just push it fairly quickly to the floor' like most other cars won't get you a hard launch at all as the car starts moving with small throttle opening and by the time they crack wide open the car is rolling and bogged down at low rpm. The spring booster might save you from having to feel like you're trying to kick the pedal through the firewall....
