Reviving an old thread: I just installed a valves exhaust and have tied the vacuum line into the brake booster. The E60 has provision for a vacuum line to be run through the harness grommet adjacent to the brake booster, then running adjacent to the main hardness to the trunk area. I followed this path.

Some pictures briefly showing the run of the vacuum line. It essentially follows the run that would be followed by the 535D exhaust vacuum line

Update to my post above - I purchased from eBay (~$4) a universal 2ch 433mhz garage door remote and receiver, with a latching relay function, which I have used to replace the exhaust valve controller my exhaust came with.

This has allowed me to use one of the Homelink buttons in my rear view mirror to open/close the exhaust valve, for a stealth and somewhat OEM-like integration.
