Realoem has 2 injector part numbers for the E60 M5 13647834893 and 13647839098. The first one is mainly Bosch and is very inexpensive. Realoem says it ended in 2014. The second part seems to be only BMW and costs well over US$100 per.

Was there something wrong with the Bosch injectors that they were 'cancelled' and replaced with the very expensive BMW ones?

Yes, profit margin was not high enough on the Bosch part.

Oh. I was starting to think that maybe the Bosch ones were the leaky ones that led to cylinder wall wash out, and damage. My hypothesis is that BMW replaced them with a newer model to resolve issues that aren't as high profile as rod bearings. Maybe they were the reason for fuel in the oil that led to other damage.

Or, so my imaginings were headed in that direction anyway.
