Bored with your Euro MDM? Let's spice things up a bit! DIY: MDM3 Competition coding for e60/e61

As many of you know, there are some tweaking possibilities in the DSC modules in our M5s to reduce the "nanny" corrections that are present in MDM mode to keep things between the ditches but still allow us to have a little fun. Myself, as well as many of you have done the MDM2 (Euro MDM) modification, which codes the DSC to European market vehicle standards by giving us a little more yaw tolerance and less throttle intervention based on over/under steer, vehicle yaw, wheel spin, etc.

I have taken a little deeper look into this and wanted to see if there was a way to take this a step further. The e63/e64 were available in VERY limited numbers with option 7MA - Competition package. 7MA included a re-vamped coding file for the DSC which nearly doubles the tolerable yaw & over steer/under steer allowed in the vehicle before intervention. I have finally been able to reproduce this by generating a virtual vehicle order (FA) in NCS for an e63 with 7MA and applying these settings to the e60 M5. You can not simply add option 7MA to your VO and code your DSC if you are an e60 or e61. You can if you are an M6, but you need to modify a couple things first including your vehicle type key, and production date.

Below is the before and after for an E60 M5, with SMG. You will need to be handy with NCS for this to work. DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!

Behold:

Changing your DSC coding per above will bring your car to MDM3 (Competition package) settings for vehicle stability. I will attach the generated virtual FA file for NCSExpert shortly. to use it, simply open ncs in expert mode, open FA file, and code ONLY your DSC module. Do not code anything else in your car with this virtual FA except the DSC module, or you will have major problems. Save the attachment and change the extension to .SSD

Enjoy.

Looks great. Any real-world feedback?

Doesn't seem too dangerous to perform. You can't really break things with NCSExpert as you can with WinKfp.

Is this really a good idea considering the M6 is much lighter? Isn't the suspension also different such as spring rates, etc?

Awesome! Been waiting and have asked before for the competition mdm and edc suspension settings and steering settings...

Off topic, is there anyway possible to get S6 in D6? Basically the hardest shift mode in auto setting?

I just have all of the nannies turned off when I hit the M button. My '04 Mustang Cobra is a lot more "lively" car and I have no problem keeping it under control with no traction control. I haven't noticed any malign tendencies in the M5's handling when unpoliced by the stability control.

--'04 Mustang Cobra, bolt-ons, ~460rwhp (blower upgrade and 600rwhp coming soon)
--'08 Buell 1125R, '14 Yamaha Vmax, '05 Triumph Speed Triple, '03 Suzuki DRZ-400E
