I don't know exactly. Could have been low hydraulic fluid level, could be failing smg motor. The only faults it threw were for not enough pressure in SMG (points to a failing motor or low fluid) and clutch activation/position deviation that usually accompanies the other fault code most time . No other fault codes. The PLCD was relatively new, as it was replaced before. But I went to delete the codes and they were gone. I will check from time to time. Also, I did the transmission/clutch adaptation and it improved the whole usability of the SMGIII. So far, I drove more for more than 2 weeks and did not see the red cog again.

But there are also 2 things that are different: the weather is cooler and I drive only in S 5 P500. Don't know if the temperature have any effect on the SMG functioning.
And yes, I also put in a new SMG motor and new hydraulic fluid.

This morning the red cog came back. The Only fault code is 4FA0. No more pressure undershooting codes after motor replacement. The car drives fine, a little bang sound on gear changes, but if I change them on 2.5-3 RPMs, it's smooth. With just 4FA0 code, what else can I check? What else can this be? Thanks!

red cog back again

Another red cog on start. New SMG motor, did clutch adaptations, new battery, refilled the smg reservoir, noticed a little sweat from fluid on the surface.

Red cog happens only on start when I press the brake pedal first. This morning noticed the brake pedal is hard to press.
Same codes: pressure undershooting and clutch position deviation. There was also another random code in DME: oxygen sensor-restart diagnostics.

Do you guys think it is still the electrical issue?

I have done SMG reset and upon start this morning: another red cog for several seconds and gone.

Checked faults: only 1 smg fault this time: 4FA0.

What shall I do now? Replace the whole smg unit? What if it's a worn clutch? Or shall I wait until it completely breaks down/throws more faults?

If someone was in a similar situation, please help with the advise.

QUOTE=moe00;6420906]i have same issues, no help yet?!?!?!?[/QUOTE]

I ended up changing clutch assembly.

But man, these cars need a new clutch every 6 months. Prepare at least $US3500 every half a year for a new clutch. I know this shouldn't happen, but it happened to me, and I always drive in manual S5 mode, never push or abuse it.

Since this thread has come back from the dead.... Dude, either your clutch isn't being installed properly, or you're being way to aggressive on the shifts.
