I'm awaiting my Blackstone report to add some weight to that theory.

Anyone here have worn rod bearing or high lead Blackstone report that lives in a hot climate?

My BMWs never see winter. I'm hot in SoCal, but it's not nearly AZ hot. I am meticulous with warm up procedures in all my cars. With that said, I don't know how my s85 was treated in the early days (test drives at the dealership and wreckless techs included). My RBs were shot.

As a side note, I regularly switch to thinner oils in our SuperCharged LandCruiser (210,000 miles) for the winter months, where it lives above 8,000 ft.

I'm still running 10w60 but not Castrol. Instead, I'm on Motul 7100T. I'm 4,000 miles post-rod bearing replacement and I'm still burning ZERO oil. I just returned from a blast across The Nevada Desert and burned ZERO oil. I'm about to do my 2nd oil change post-bearings and send a sample to BS for analysis.

I've thought about going to a thinner oil, (per m3post) but my s85 never sees cold temperatures.

So, what about folks that are still under warranty?

There's enough documentation floating around now that the notion of this being pure speculation is starting to go away. They got our money when we bought the car, they got our money with TWS, now they get more with parts. At least the improved visibility of the subject may save a few engines from here on out.
My car has 1 1/2 years left on the extended warranty and it had elevated lead at 23, 2 oil changes ago. It was down within normal parameters at the next oil change but i am concerned that could be because it wore off.

This whole rod bearing thing I am sure has taken a toll on owners on this board. I know I've thought about running alternative oils for the past week or so. Along with researching what can be done to fix/ban-aid the problem, etc. I am simply sick of it, honestly! lol. I spoke with the shop foremens at my work and upper shop management no one has heard ANYTHING about this new oil recommendation. Most likely because BMW hasn't issued a bulletin about it.

This ish really sucks. Looks like I shall be continuing to send in my oil for analysis to Blackstone Labs for the rest of my ownership lol.

Anyone get lead levels in the 20's PPM range before? Just curious.

I am not sure if it is a good or bad thing but I never have to add oil between 5k oil changes using TWS. 32k total miles.

Agreed. I do think it is odd though that some of these engines will burn alot of oil and some will burn very little. Mine stopped burning oil at 20k miles. Before that I had to add a liter between changes.

I know!

Yes, he'll take pics, and I'll take pics.

It's a double treat for me, as I'm not only getting new bearings but also long tube headers!

Can't wait! Hurry up Raikku will you!
