Negotiating for BMW warranty?

I am about to pull the trigger on a BMW warranty through the dealer. Price is pretty reasonable which is 4700 for 100k miles. However
is there room to negotiate with them or how much room is there? Unlike a car where you can find out pretty accurately what invoice is, I have
no idea what the bottom price is for a warranty? Any tips?

There is a sticky above for warranty questions, I would post this question there. $4700 for 100k miles sounds pretty cheap but need to understand what is covered and what is not.

I sell these for a living. Yes, they are negotiable... very negotiable... unless F&I products are regulated in your state.

I am also in the market for an extended warranty for my 2006 M5 w/ 39XXX miles on it. I have been quoted the following as of 5/10/13. This is an exclusionary plan backed by "Marathon Administrative Co" of our O'Fallon, IL. I have never heard of them before but then again I just started browsing for a warranty. I did email Bruce a few times and talked to him once but with his busy schedule, I couldn't get a reply from him! Anyways, here are my findings:

Warranty Offered By: Auto Advantage Inc.
Underwriter: This coverage is directly underwritten by Amtrust Group ("A/Excellent" rated by AMBest) for the highest level of financial security

Auto Advantage Inc. offers you many benefits our competition can't promise including the following...
* Extended Warranties direct to consumers and dealerships nationwide at wholesale prices has been our business since our inception in 1979.
* We offer only Premium, Top-Rated vehicle Warranties.
* No Gimmicks, No Coupons and No Up Selling tactics, ever!
* Our high volume and low overhead allows us to offer the LOWEST PRICES RIGHT FROM THE START for the most comprehensive coverage available for your vehicle.
* Our company is owned and staffed by Warranty Experts, Not Salespeople or Telemarketers.
* We understand the three most important words "Yes, It's Covered"!

Thank you for your request for a price quote for an extended warranty. The price below is for an "Exclusionary" Bumper-to-Bumper warranty. This is the most comprehensive policy available and INCLUDES Covered Breakdowns due to WEAR & TEAR. Just non-covered parts are excluded. (See policy exclusions at bottom of email).

*** Policy starts from the date of policy purchase zero miles.

Ref. # RYBC530401000 (12)
Exclusionary Bumper-To-Bumper Coverage
$100.00 Deductible Per Repair Visit
3 Year/ 75,000 Total Odometer Miles- $4,245.00
3 Year/100,000 Total Odometer Miles- $4,965.00
4 Year/ 75,000 Total Odometer Miles- $4,720.00
4 Year/100,000 Total Odometer Miles- $5,340.00
5 Year/ 75,000 Total Odometer Miles- $5,020.00
5 Year/100,000 Total Odometer Miles- $6,040.00
Other Deductibles Are Also Available
Low Down Payment Financing Available
This warranty starts from the *zero mileage and from the *date of policy purchase.
(Example: a 4 Year/100,000 Mile warranty on a 2010 vehicle with 45,000 miles would get you 4 additional years of coverage from the day you purchase the warranty or until the vehicle reaches 100,000 miles.)

This Coverage Also Includes:
* Towing
* Rental
* Lockout Service
* 24 Hour Roadside Assistance
* One Deductible Per Repair Visit
* All Warranties Are Transferrable & Renewable.

Repairs can be done at any repair shop or dealership in the United States or Canada. Payment will be made directly to the repair facility at the completion of repairs by the warranty administrator's corporate credit card account.

For further information please call me at 1-800-933-9190, or email me at [email protected] . If you would like to see a sample contract we be happy to provide one for you. Thanks again for your interest. We hope we can be your warranty source both now and in the future.

Policy Exclusions:
(The parts listed below are not covered. Therefore any part not listed is covered under this coverage per the terms of this agreement):
Normal maintenance, service and parts described in the Vehicle’s Manufacturer’s Maintenance Schedule engine tune-up, suspension alignment, wheel balancing, filters, lubricants, engine coolant, fluids, spark/glow plugs, brake pads, linings, shoes, drums and rotors except when damaged by a covered part. Manual transmission clutch assembly, and manual and hydraulic linkages. Light Bulbs, battery, exhaust system/catalytic converter, safety restraint systems, cellular telephones, video entertainment systems, anti-theft systems, and any equipment not installed by the vehicle manufacturer.

Hal J. Moses
Auto Advantage Inc.

Anyone ever deal with Hal over at Auto Advantage Inc? He has been super in getting back to me with all of the questions.

I am not sure if forking up $6K on a 7 year old car is worth it? After doing tons of research I found that the most common thing to go on the E60 is the "SMG Hydraulic Pump" (which I don't think anyone covers anyways, and the clutch and the flywheel assembly and other misc parts) BTW: Any advise on where to source these parts from? Dealer wants big money for them.

Also, the VANOS issue and I saw a thread which mentioned a Recall but I never got the letter and my dealership has never mentioned anything over the past few years. Even though I always ask whether there is any sort of a recall on my vehicle! Has anyone gotten the VANOS issue covered under extended warranty? If yes, then please refer the name of the company and the seller.

Please contact me with any warranty information at: [email protected]

Good Warranty?

Finally found and bought my M5 (2008 with 24k miles). I will post pictures if the weather ever cooperates, but for now I am considering extended warranties. I found one that originally appeared to be pretty good (Endurance), sold as a "bumper-to-bumper" warranty less specific exclusions. However, the list of exclusions seems very long to me. I apologize for the long post, but would some of you be able to please comment on whether the below exclusions go too far? At a minimum, I want to make sure the warranty covers the most common problems. $3,400 for 4 years or up to 61k accumulated miles (so, approx. 36k miles of coverage), but I wouldn't mind spending a bit more if the coverage should be better. Thanks!

Here are the Exclusions (some of the items I'm most concerned about are in bold):
  • Valve grinding, valve guides, burnt valves, stuck valves, burnt piston, and/or stuck rings are not covered.

  • Any repair for the purpose of correcting engine compression, correcting oil consumption, or the gradual reduction of performance when a Breakdown has not occurred.
  • Damage caused by pre-ignition detonation, pinging, improper/contaminated fuel including fuels containing more than 10% ethanol (if the engine was not manufactured for this mixture), excessive fuel conditions, lean fuel conditions, clogged fuel injectors, improper lubricants or improper engine adjustments.
  • Any mechanical Breakdown caused by failure to maintain proper levels of lubrication, lubricant blockage, coolant blockage lack of lubrication or carbon buildup in cylinders.
  • Breakdown caused by or due to the failure of nuts, bolts or fasteners (internal and/or external). Nuts, bolts or fasteners are covered in conjunction with a covered repair that arises from a Breakdown of a Covered Part.
  • EGR purge valve/solenoids/sensors, vacuum canister, vapor return canister, vapor return lines/valves, air pump/lines/valves, catalytic converter/filtering/sensors, gas cap/filler neck, weather strips, trim, moldings, bright metal chrome, upholstery and carpet, paint, outside ornamentation, bumpers, body sheet metal and panels, frame and structural body parts, vinyl and convertible tops, any convertible top assemblies, door handles, lift gate handles, tailgate handles, door bushings/bearings, hardware or linkages, tires, tire pressure sensors, wheel/rims, programming, reprogramming, or updating a component that has not mechanically failed.

  • Any equipment not installed by the manufacturer. [COULD THIS INCLUDE REPAIR PARTS INSTALLED BY THE DEALER/MECHANIC?]
  • Thermostat housing, shock absorbers, carburetor, battery and battery cable/harness, standard transmission clutch assembly, friction clutch disc and pressure plate, distributor cap and rotor, safety restraint systems (including air bags), glass, lenses, sealed beams, light bulbs, LED lighting, fuses, circuit breakers, cellular phones, personal computers, and pre-heated car systems, game centers, speakers. Radio, compact disc player, and cassette player covered if manufacturer installed but limited to one thousand ($1,000) dollars repair or replacement costs, electronic transmitting/receiving devices, voice recognition systems, remote control consoles, radar detection devices, brake rotors and drums, all exhaust components.
  • For any Breakdown caused by continued operation of the Vehicle in an overheated condition irrespective of thermostat failure or the lack of proper and necessary amounts of coolants or lubricants.

  • Engine block and cylinder heads are not covered if damaged by overheating, freezing or warping.

  • External nuts, bolts and fasteners are not covered unless specifically listed in the Schedule of Coverage (except where required in conjunction with a covered repair).
  • Maintenance items listed in owner's manual: include, but are not limited to: alignments, adjustments, wheel balancing, tune-ups, spark plugs, spark plug wires, glow plugs, hoses (unless listed as specific Covered Parts), drive belts, brake pads, brake linings/shoes, and wiper blades. Filters, lubricants, coolants, fluids and refrigerants will be covered only if replacement is required in connection with a covered Breakdown.
  • For any damage and/or Breakdown resulting from collision, road hazard, fire, theft, vandalism, riot, explosion, lightning, earthquake, freezing, rust or corrosion, windstorm, air leaks, hail, water or flood, acts of God, salt, environmental damage, chemicals, contamination of fluids, fuels, coolants or lubricants.
  • For any part that a repair facility or manufacturer recommends or requires that it be replaced or repaired, updated, and is not a covered mechanical Breakdown, is Your responsibility and expense.
  • For any Breakdown caused by misuse, abuse, negligence, lack of normal maintenance required by the Your Vehicle or improper servicing or repairs subsequent to purchase.
  • For any Breakdown caused by sludge build-up resulting from Your failure to perform recommended maintenance services, or failure to maintain proper levels of lubricants and/or coolants, or failure to protect Your Vehicle from further damage when a Breakdown has occurred or failure to have Your Vehicle towed to the service facility when continued operation may result in further damage. Continued operation includes Your failure to observe warning lights, gauges, or any other signs of overheating or component failure, such as fluid leakage, slipping, knocking, or smoking, and not protecting Your Vehicle by continuing to drive creating damage beyond the initial failure. Lack of mechanical knowledge is not an excuse for continued operation.
  • For any repair or replacement of any Covered Part if a Breakdown has not occurred or if the wear on that part has not exceeded the field tolerances allowed by the manufacturer under normal operating conditions.
  • If any alterations have been made to Your Vehicle or You are using or have used Your Vehicle in a manner not recommended by the manufacturer, including but not limited to: the failure of any custom or add-on part, all frame or suspension modifications, lift kits (unless the appropriate option has been checked on the Application Page and surcharge paid), any tire that is not recommended by the original manufacturer if it creates an odometer/speedometer variance of greater than 4%, trailer hitches.
  • Also not covered are any emissions and/or exhaust systems modifications, engine modifications, transmission modifications, and/or drive axle modifications, which includes any performance modifications.
  • If Your odometer has ceased to operate and odometer repairs have not been made immediately, or the odometer has been altered in any way subsequent to purchase.

yeah, that warranty excludes too much, more so than I'd be comfortable with when owning an e60 M5.

Anyone have any information on if the BMW GOLD or powertrain plus warranty covers the M5 throttle and idle actuators/vanos and the SMG pump? Cant seem to find it listed, might have to go visit my dealer to ask.

Thank you. Anything specific that you'd be particularly concerned about? I'm finding the options for extended warranties are fairly limited- at least based in my search so far.
