Warranty

Hey Everyone, I purchased a 2006 M5 with 34k miles. I had it a few months and the clutch is shredded. I guess the throwout bearing locked up...

I am going to have them replace everything with this, including all the optional items:

BMW E60 M5 Clutch Kit & Flywheel (2006-2010) SMG Transmission Only : Bimmerzone.com

Anyone have experience with these parts?

Also, I was looking into a warranty because I am afraid of this transmission going belly up. What is the best warranty everyone is using?

Cheers!

Also, by doing a search, you'll find lots of warranty threads since this topic is discussed quite frequently...

Look up Bruce M. I used him and am VERY happy.
Fidelity is who I went with (the legit one).
Good luck!

Turning out to be a very expensive ordeal. Started out with Northwest BMW (never go to them) telling me a new battery and computer program would fix my issue. Needless to say after they pulled that trick on me I had it towed somewhere else...

Bimmerzone has a good reputation and several board members have purchased this flywhee/clutch combo since they started offering it at that price. For your own reassurance, pick up the optional kit that goes with it. This includes the clutch lever, guide bushing, rocker pin, etc. Several member have chosen to pick up the cryo/REM/ISF treated guide bushing as well. Member B767capt brought us that idea and worked with Vincent at Bimmerzone to start offering it.

SMG III can be completely overhauled for the most part for under $2500 in parts. In addition to the above, replace the PLCD, clutch slave cylinder, and SMG pump motor (only). The only things that are not replaced at that point are the shift rods and proportional valves and so far, very few failures of those have been reported.

If you're a DIY guy, get yourself the DIS software and this job becomes no more complicated than any other clutch. If not, find an indy shop and you can expect between $800-$1000 labor to drop it all and change it out.

Warranties are invaluable on this car unless you are truly willing to learn it and fix it yourself.

Yea, I saw that but why would there be a BMW Northwest on the East Coast? It should be BMW NorthEAST.
