Mesh grille on rear bumper stock?

I bought my E60 from a BMW dealership a few months ago and there was a mesh grille in the opening on the rear bumper. It looked like it came that way from the factory. Recently, someone stole the mesh grille and the opening looks odd and out of place so I went to the dealer to order it, but they told me that it was probably an aftermarket item. After taking a closer look at M5 photos online, I was shocked to see that the parts guy was right, however, I also found a few posts on other message boards where a E60 M5 owner claimed there is a mesh grille available from the factory. Can anyone clarify this?

Pics? I would love to put a grill on the back like the M3.

Mine didn't come with a mesh grille. Other stock M5s I've seen in my area didn't have it as well.

Stock e60s i believe do not come with it.

You can verify that by www.realoem.com

Yeah that grill is not stock. I've thought about buying the piece for the front lower grill and modifying it to fit the rear opening but the rear is curved and I was told it couldn't be done. What your car had was probably something from www.racemeshgrilles.com.

There have been many discussions and ideas thrown around on the board regarding an aftermarket mesh grille for the rear. There is NOT an OEM part for the rear diffuser (although there should be like the M3 as you suggested). Many of us are eagerly awaiting for this idea to come to fruition through a custom fabrication from one of the board members here (JME). See the thread below...

Rear Mesh Grill.

New to the board. I wondered if there were any developments in your search for the rear mesh grill. I too would like to obtain one, but being down here in NZ the demand for "one offs" from a fabricator would be very small.
I have searched the forums for the answer and apologise if this has been resolved, I cannot find an answer.

Lots of discussion about this and very few solutions. JME is working on an option with a custom diffuser, but not a lot of after market parts to be found. I purchased a bumper kit from Europe a few months ago and they sent me additional ABS mesh material for an extra $100. These mesh sheets are very flexible so they'll bend with the curve of the diffuser. They also look very very close to the OEM mesh on the front grill. Since I'm not installing this kit any longer I'd be happy to sell these if someone wants them. You'd only need one for the rear diffuser since the sheets are about 2 1/2 feet wide by 8-in tall. For $50 each plus $8 shipping I'll sell to first to claim them. Here's a picture for reference...

Hi,

Also, looking for a rear mesh grille.. have searched the web without any joy :-(

Any pointers welcome??

Thanks,

Vik
Yes, the problem is that it doesn't match the OEM front grille mesh very well. Of course you could change out both, but I think many prefer the OEM design and a darker color.

But a sheet of perforated aluminum and cut to size. I used to make custom grills (years ago) and buy 10ft sheets of this stuff.

Many different patterns/hole sizes can be found. If memory serves me correctly...I think I was paying like $50-60.00 per 5foot x 10foot sheet.

i'd love to do that, people always ask if there's something missing there lol
