help with windshield water spots

Did a search and couldn't find the topic--I did a boo-boo the other day and washed my car in direct sunlight. Although I kept it continually rinsed to try to prevent water spots, I ended up with pretty bad spotting all over the car. Of course I didn't notice it until after I spent a few hours applying Zaino polish, so I suspect the spots are now under the polish.

In any case, the windshield now has pretty bad spotting as well (I think we have fairly hard water and maybe I should use an inline water softener on the hose). I've tried Stoner invisible glass cleaner and lots of elbow grease, to no avail. Griot's has glass polish that specifically will remove water spots, but they warn against using it on coated windshields. I'm assuming our glass is coated for the HUD. Any other suggestions for getting the water spots out of the glass?

Thanks

When it happens to me, the only thing I find that gets the really bad water spots out is to simply wash those areas with soap/water again. If I ever miss some bad water spots I'll try to get rid of em with all types of polishes/etc, but I find it wont completely go away until I actually wash the car again!
