Help identify what's missing - Xtron nav unit removal, back to OEM

Hey Guys, when I bought my 01 E39, the previous owner had installed an Xtrons Nav/Bluetooth head unit, with a Kenwood amp, backup cam... The whole nine yard. First, the install was terrible and the sound was even worst... the backup cam didn't worked half the time, the parking sensor would keep beeping after I started moving forward etc... Last night I decided to go back to stock. I had what I tough was all the hardware: CD changer, OEM amp and braket.

Long story short, I reinstalled what I have but I'm pretty sure there's a module missing as I have two plugs still unhooked and one large one, looks like an old printer connector (pic) as well as a fouth smaller black connector. I gave it a short still just to be sure and the radio works, I can get reception but I have no video on the head unit. Looking at diagrams, it looks like I'm missing what they call the "video module".

Does that make any sense? Here are the plugs I'm left with, can you guys confirm the E39 use this video module and that it's not an option?

The navigation unit is the one that outputs video to the board monitor up front.

The video module is not necessary to get video up front. It just outputs television or additional video inputs to your board monitor.

I would start by pulling the navigation unit out of the bracket and making sure that both the blue and purple connectors are plugged into it.

Interesting, they are connected to the van unit but maybe the wrong blue connector was used... there's two I think...

Negative, just checked and both blue and purple plugs are loomed together very tight to the nav unit, you can't plug them anywhere else but there and together

I think he is using a MKIII unit and then he needs the TV/video module also. With MKIV you have a build in video and is the TV module not required.

Done so far:
- Evolve ECU tune, Alpha-N, sec. air pump delete, oct. 98, speed limiter removal
- Evolve carbon air intakes
- Evolve IATS relocate
- Evolve Medusa Headers
- Evolve 200 cell cats

And of course very happy with these mods

the DB25 and blue connector are for Bluetooth and voice control respectively.

I have both and MKIII and upgraded to MKIV don't remember removing the video module but I'll double check .

Me neither removed the video module. The parallel plug was for the older ULF versions. If I am correct, you connected the navigation unit to the video module and the video module to the monitor. If you took out the purple plug and used it directly in the MKIV unit, you bypassed the video module ?

One thing I forgot to mention, the light on my nav module is ON in the trunk, so I pressed the eject button but no cd came out... I actually don't know if there's a CD in there or not. Would not having a CD inside the unit cause the black head unit screen I'm seeing?

I've tried to find an ISO or IMG file of a map CD that would fit my MKIII unit but I can't seem to find one. If anyone can point me in the right direction, I would appreciate it. I thought of upgrading the MKIII to a newer version but not seeing anything on the screen would make it hard to know when to remove the iso disc and insert the key disc etc...

MkIII and MkIV navigation are different units. One uses several CD-ROM map discs to cover North America and the other uses a DVD-ROM map disc. I have a couple of various discs but I'm away from them now or I'd send one to you.

I'll shoot

Blue plug: Hands free connector (only if you utilize OEM bluetooth) later cars are prewired for this regardless of option.
Black serial plug: Corded phone plug or Telematics unit (varies) can't see loom entirely.
Black 12 pol small plug: looks like GPS Thrimble unit. Useless since you using a MK3 from what I can see. Since the GPS (literal GPS location) is done internally. (or 1 of 3 amp plugs, again can't see loom)
Black 3 pol small plug: looks like the secondary connector for your CD player.

Are you getting absolutely no picture from your monitor? It is black, but lit? Or dead off black?

Note: you DO NOT need a video module to run with any MK( ) unit. These are accessory to it. (FYI: However back in the day you could run the monitor without a MK unit via Videomodule)
Secondly, you DO NOT need a CD to run the monitor, all this CD does is provide MAPs for the Navigation. No CD = "No map disk inserted" when you select navigation.

You may either have an inline wire issue or (easier) dead graphics processor on the MK3.
