Hey Dan,

I noticed that you decided to use the Pentosin tranny fluid. I have been doing some research on tranny fluid and there are a million post on the topic. From what I read that the tranny in the M5 requires a API GL-4 fluid. The Pentosin you show has a API of GL-5. I may be wrong but I think the GL-5 is not good for the synchros in this tranny. If anyone else likes to chime in on this? https://s3.amazonaws.com/fcp-pdf-fil...COLOR_Rev2.pdf

Pentosin FFL-4 is 75W and it replaced Pentosin MTF-LT-2 which is what M5 gearbox calls for (actually the sticker on side of the tranny says MTF-LT-1 which is suppressed by LT-2).
It's fine to use this oil in the M5 tranny, even says so in the spec sheet you linked - Pentosin FFL-4 is also recommended for BMW with ZF and Getrag manual transmissions (1997 on)...

Any idea if the fuel pump has been replaced? If the cover isn't torn underneath the rear seat, then it probably hasn't.

What's your exhaust situation? Can't tell if the mufflers are gone or not.

And x2 on the BeastPower brackets.

I haven't checked the fuel pump yet but that's on the next round of "to do" list.

Next preventative maintenance items:
Clutch, flywheel and rear main seal.
Check Fuel Pump
Disassemble VANOS solenoids to check the seals and solder joints
Might drop the oil pan to see if there is any timing chain guide material in there
Mechanically the car runs perfect right now.

Just found out the other day the sunroof doesn't tilt, seems to be a common issue so I'll be tackling that next. I actually really enjoyed my time working on the M5, everything is pretty straight forward and pretty easy to do. Sounds weird but I'm kinda glad there is more things to do/fix.

Exhaust is still completely stock and mufflers still intact, dropping it in one complete piece was a bit tough especially with nobody to help and no lift. The system "felt" like it weighed 200lbs! =) I used a combination of a motorcycle jack plus a floor jack to complete the task. Removing the rear bumper also helped immensely with getting to the outside muffler hanger nuts.

I had the pleasure of meeting the OP and seeing the car up close when I picked up his "takeoff" tires that have at least 90% tread left.
Pictures are great but they don't do this car justice. It's super clean, paint is immaculate, interior and engine bay are spotless. Just beautiful.
Keep the updates and pics coming, nice work!

It was great meeting you too Paul, enjoy those tires. One day I would love to see your Anthracite over Red M5, beautiful combo.
