Pierburg fuel pump replacement

A heads up when replacing the fuel pump, by itself, not the whole assembly.

When replacing the fuel pump one clip is required to secure the hose to the pump (part No 5)

RealOEM.com - Online BMW Parts Catalog

In the U.K, BMW supply the clamp as a Jubilee / worm clamp and not the Oetiker clamp as seen on disassembly.

The Clamp (No.5) as supplied by BMW in the U.K is the wrong size and does not provide adequate clamping force and subsequently leaks around the hose, once the pump is activated.

I have double checked this with BMW and re-ordered through a different dealer, only to be given the same clamp size again.

I've ordered three sizes of Oetiker and will report once fitted.

If they sold you the right part, then they would also have to sell the tool to install it. The way they mark things up that tool would likely sell for around the same price as your first child's education.

The old Oetiker clamp I removed has 11.3 stamped on the side
However I measured the diameter and it was less than 11.3.
I've ordered a number of varying sized of Oetiker clamps and should have them today

Just curious how many miles on your car now when you are changing your fuel pump. I changed the fuel pump on my 2003 M5 at 110K miles shortly after the fuel pump went south on my 2000 540i with 160K miles.

80109 miles in 17 years as of yesterday.
As one of the two items that can strand an M5 (fuel relay being the other) and a very reasonable price for the pump alone, as well as being a straight forward DIY job, it was always on the list.
