The latter. I don't want to waste my time arguing as its pretty much moot point, let me just say that I don't agree, but I also have better thing to do in my life than bicker on a forum.

If this response is not a definition of trolling, I don't know what is. Should we ban you too?

Yeah, free speech as interpreted by case law (and backed by the constitutional framers intent, see federalist papers if really interested) places significant restrictions on the governments ability to regulate speech. Limitations on the individual are minimal, usually only speech by the individual that reaches civil liability (libel/slander) or criminal liability (such as the classic shouting fire in a movie theater scenario) is regulated.

Actually, in the US, it is quite difficult to prove a libel/slander case compared to the UK, where tabloids regularly pay out settlements/awards to plaintiffs. State statutes require malice + damages which I think in the UK a plaintiff just has to show damages. So libel and slander cases are not expensive here, they just dont happen that often, but other forms of plaintiffs suits can be expensive for sure.

Have only seen references on TV and seen it bantered on forums for my life, I had been given the wrong impression. It does not apply to me so never took the time to find out what it meant.

It did not take long the other day to find out it did not apply to this situation in anyway. I only read some of the extremes where people tried to use it as a defense. It was quite clear that the defense lawyers in those cases also had not idea what it meant. Also the references I have watched on TV don't represent what it means so I suspect most Americans don't really know what it means.

Of coarse it was either a moderator or admin that gave the ban, they are the only ones that can. You don't agree but you don't have access to the facts, no one but the mods and admin do. Part way though the thread it was made clear there were things going on behind the scenes as a result of a post made by the OP that was a clear violation of the rules. Then there was a second post that could have applied to the forum members, but I suspect from reading the post by the mod that comment was directed at the forum members and the the moderators.

It is hard to agree or disagree when you don't have all the facts. It is not hard to see that in private, the OP may have gone farther than his public statement of calling some people pathetic. Seems quite reasonable to me maybe not to you, that he could go farther if confronted, so I don't think you should be surprised. Certainly no one is going to explain it publicly.

So - you have access to some information we don't? Care to share it? Cause to me this sound like some conspiracy theory you feed to the sheep.

That was the whole point of what I said. NO and neither do you so how do you agree or disagree with what happened. Maybe you missed the part where the mod said something along the lines of another mod contacted you though messaging to tell you to stop being a nuisance.
I don't really get what you don't understand there is no theory there just a clear statement of what I have not seen nor will ever. Maybe you don't understand that saying you people are pathetic is a violation? Very clearly he said that.
I don't think you have any idea how tolerant these mods are here. You don't seem to offer them any respect. They go out of there way to be more than fair, and just calm things down. These mods have been on this board since before even most of the old members joined.
They are praise worthy and in my book should be respected and never criticized, they have earned it through their years of service.

As someone who just joined the forum, the way this was handled is very disheartening. Like someone said earlier, definitely a good ol' boy mentality here. Has the vendor (who is apparently on this site) actually chimed in? Curious why he hasn't.

The vendor is not a forum sponsor nor have I ever seen him post in the few years I've been on here.
Everyone has their opinion. I personally think the OP, although he may have had a legitimate beef, was way out of line and got what he deserved. Just like he has on multiple other forums.
You didn't read what he wrote or else give him a complete pass on his rude and arrogant comments.
